Rizhan Ketheran Ulmenvos III

Rizhan Ketheran Ulmenvos III, who ruled from the years 1162 to 1168 A.C.R., son of the previous Rizhan, was the last of the Ulmenvos dynasty. His reign was cut short in his pursuit to regain his grandmother's edge for ruling, but taking things tragically too far.   "His coronation was a war-horn blaring to Drostollor. The last lick of flame that sends the pot boiling over. His coronation was a death knell." -Korvyre

No Long Reign

Ketheren III aimed to be decisive, as was his family before him. He was swift to act to tighten restrictions on the Drostollorian's in a militaristic fashion. Stationing troops in the capital of Drostollor, a small dispute turned into muder, sparking the slaughter of over a score of Alerean troops that were "guests" of a Drostollorian court. Aleryn could only respond by assuming a border, and many Drostollorians saw this as opportunity to rebel in full. Their resources were high due to Fjorlosian trade, and with their direct aid, victory was assured.

The End of a Dynasty

Drostollor, who had strived for many decades to see the Ulmenvos dynasty's fall, Akathia with it, saw their opportunity at the end of Ketheran II's life. The alliances forged between Ketheren II and other neighboring states and the realms at large would be shaken by the transfer of power, loyalties at their weakest. Drostollor, knowing the transfer would weaking Aleryn, took the years following the Rebellion of the Comet to rebuild, restructure, and grow their strength in solitude - that is until they made a private alliance with Fjorlosia.   A new material was growing in value: a metal known as mythraline, and one that required etraline and silver, which were both in abundance in Drostollorian lands. Silent deals made Drostollor rather wealthy in a short time, and this fueled a war machine that could compete with Aleryn. The War of Vying was named so afterwards, as once Drostollor had succeeded in a great effort to seize Aleryn, those in their very ranks that sympathized and had assimilated into Alerean culture, rose back against their country in self-defiance. Drostollor could not make a governing decision quick enough to defeat an immediate rebellion by Aleryn, and they were driven out. During this siege, Ketheren III was killed.   Both nations were left to lick their wounds, as the dwarven force that had joined the initial Drostollorian assault on Aleryn as a chance to hunker their forces in Alerean borders, knowing they would not be attacked if they themselves remained non-violent. From here, they launched a campaign through Shaelarin. Aleryn wished not to aid in the dwarven side of the war, or even profiteer, as it would be seen as equally valid a threat to Shaelarin. They did, however, stand to rebuild faster if they did take a profit, and so Fjorlosia was dealt with by Aleryn, once again growing to a direct and superior threat that can continue to have its thumb on Drostollor. Aleryn then faught to protect Drostollor from Shaelarin attacks incurred as Aleryn fueled forward supplies to Fjorlosian forces.
