Personal history
Weston's parents were both big believers in the benefits of musical education, although they had little talent or education themselves. They ensured that their children had access to every instrument they desired, and insisted that they practiced something regularly.
His first instrument was the piano, and he is still a talented player. It was never his favorite, so he continued to try others, eventually moving on to woodwinds and brass. His primary instrument is the tenor saxophone, which he uses when he writes music.
He attended the Thornton School of Music at USC, expanding his repertoire of instruments to strings. Other than the guitar, he did not enjoy them and did not become highly proficient. He made a name for himself as a versatile jazz musician and began session gigs before graduating.
Johnny O'Reilly hired him when he took over Tonight! after searching for a musician who could play multiple instruments across any genre. The two quickly became friends, and they work together smoothly on the show.
