One of the things I would love to see is a way to jump to the Next/Previous event on the timeline or on any visible timeline. Most of the events of my campaign happen on a Day-level scale, but it becomes very difficult to find historical events that may be relevant.
How do I link from an article back into the Chronicle? Like someone clicked on a link for a settlement, I want to bring them back to the chronicle now and have the map centered on the same map-pin that took them away to the settlement's page. Similarly if someone is browsing articles I want to be able to bring them over to the relevant section of the chronicle.
Right now you can only link to the Chronicle as a whole.
Maybe this is a silly question, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to change the "Time period" display portion of a chronicle. The year is always displayed as [year] CE, even though "CE" is not the time period abbreviation I would use for my world. How can I correctly change this in a chronicle? Is it tied to something else that I'm missing?
Hi! This is currently not possible, but it's planned long-term (meaning that I don't know when it will happen, but it's in the list!).
Hi. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I can't seem to get past the "choose calendar template" option in the chronicle creation wizard. I can choose an option, but neither the "next" button nor the "back" button will do anything. This is happening with all of the calendar options.
Hi! This sounds like a bug. Can you report it in our bug tracker on GitHub? Thanks!
Hi! Is there any way to add ages to the chronicle? I really liked this feature of the timelines
Hi! Eras are not currently supported, but there are plans to add them in a future update. In the meantime, what some people do (me included) is to use the top lane of the Chronicle as the era marker. So create an event that's as long as the era and name it with the era name. Of course this won't reset the years but is still a clear visual indicator.
Are we able to change the Ce And BCE on the chronicle feature like we can on timelines?
It's currently not possible—but custom eras are a planned feature for a future version.
Hey there! I have three questions (this is a very interesting feature!). Firstly, is it possible to rename the time unit of months as well? Not the months themselves, but the fact that they are called "months"? For example, you renamed the time unit of days as "Sundowns", and I would like to do so for months as well. Second question: is it possible to make units of time where you can choose what makes up what? For example, after "years" there is "decades", "centuries", etc. You can customize all of their durations, but you can't customize what the duration is made up of - it's always "years". What if I wanted my "decade" to be a specific number of months instead of a specific number of "years"? Is this possible? And finally, I'd really love it if you could choose how many units of time you could have instead of having a specific number (10) of them. I'd like to be able to make my "year" 4 "seasons" instead of 365 "days". I hope this makes sense... what I'm trying to say is, I'd like to have more units of time available so that I could make (for example) a year = 4 seasons = 3 months = 4 weeks = 7 days, etc. Is this possible or are there a set number of units? Thank you!

Hi! To answer your questions:
Thank you for your help!

Is there a way to display the timeline in months (Gregorian)?
There isn't. There is so much variation in the way worldbuilders organize their calendars that this would be really difficult to implement.
Is there no export capability at the moment? I realized this can make things difficult to read wholistically so I wanted to export everything to a doc.
Chronicles don't have an export feature at this time, no. It's unlikely that they'll get one, since the point of using them rather than Timelines is to see how it interacts with a map, but you can request it in the feature suggestion board
Its an ... interesting start... but, there's some *significant* amount of work that needs to be done to make this adoptable by myself. 1. We need the ability to port Timelines to Chronicles. Some of us have extensive Timelines that re-creating *every* event in the Chronicle system is... a problem. 2. We need the ability to set the Zoom Level when you click on an Event. 3. The image displayed for linked Articles needs to be the Image, not the Cover Image. I use Cover Image for "Groups" of items, instead of individual items. 4. We need the ability to set a default view when you get onto the Chronicle Screen. 5. Why is the Chronicles Images system and the WorldAnvil Images system separate? That seems... weird. 6. Era naming needs to exist. 7. Timeline items need to appear in the Article that the Timeline Item is linked to. 8. Right-click on an item should also include an item to Edit/Delete an item. 9. No Euclid for Descriptions? Yeah, that's a hard pass. 10. Font Awesome and RPG Awesome icons for Map Markers would be amazing. Right now, it just seems like a less feature-complete Map System with 1 additional field for the time. Maybe I'll revisit it the next time that Chronicles gets an overhaul.
Hi! Thanks for the feedback. This blog post has the Chronicles roadmap: https://blog.worldanvil.com/worldanvil/dev-news/chronicles-roadmap-see-whats-coming-next/. If there's something you'd like to see that isn't in the roadmap, please open a feature suggestion—the devs don't watch these comments.
Hello! I've only dabbled with Chronicles up til now (the limitations made it more of a headache than I had time for), but I've recently decided to use it to better organize my campaign's rp oriented sessions. We use Discord to play, and I was REALLY hoping I could just copy-paste the text from it into the long description on a new chronicles event and voila! but it didn't quite work out that way. When going back to "read the full story" in the side panel, instead of getting nice spaced out messages as they appear in Discord (and as they pasted into the description box) I got a huge solid block of text. Nowhere in Chronicles, the Codex, or any other source I could find explains that the description box is dependent on BBC codes, and I was forced to go through and manually type the linebreak code for each space I wanted. It would be REALLY fantastic if BBC didn't apply here, because it makes it impossible to just copy-paste out of Discord. I really hope Chronicles would be a great tool for giving myself a linear timeline of different discord chats, but manually adding spaces with codes is just a huge time suck.
Hi! In BBCode-enabled fields, you don't need to write linebreak codes to create a new paragraph. Just leave blank lines between paragraphs, and the system will interpret that as a line break. If you want to suggest an enhancement, please request it here: https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/ Hope this helps!
This is super interesting! Is there a way to change the ratio of map to calendar? I want to be able to see more concurrent events/timelines at once without having to scroll up and down. I am using this to outline a novel that takes place over a small area, so I don't need such a large space for the map. Thank you!
Hi! There currently isn't a setting for that. You might be able to tweak it with CSS, but it's an advanced feature. If you'd like to give it a try and are not familiar with CSS, you can join our Discord server and ask in the #css-help channel (but again, keep in mind it's an advanced/technical feature!).
Is it possible for map markers to only show on the map when the linked event is in progress and vanish when the event concludes/hasn't started?
Hi! This isn't currently possible, no. A possible workaround, depending on the set-up of your Chronicle, would be to switch maps for different events. Markers only appear in their maps, so if the map changes, so will the markers. But this is only practical for big world changes (such as catastrophes or natural disasters) or other uncommon events. If you'd like to suggest this as a feature, you can do so here: https://www.worldanvil.com/community/voting/, but don't expect this to come soon if it's accepted.

I've been working on an individual timeline for a while, and I can't seem to find a way to add that pre-existing timeline to a chronicle. Is there any way to do that yet? Or is there possibly a quick workaround to copy all of the data of a timeline and insert it into a new timeline within the chronicle? I'll keep poking around and see if I can't figure it out.
Same, I would love to port my already existing liner timeline into the chronicles
Hi! This is currently not a feature, but we're gathering feedback from the community to prepare the roadmap for the next Chronicles update! I've made a note of this.
I'd also like to be able to import an existing Timeline into a Chronicle.
Amazing! Thank you so much! it would be great to just port it over as opposed to making a new one
Is there a way to add links within the text (as text links) or is the 'links' tab the only option?
I'd very much like to import existing timelines, events, maps, and the like as well. Chronicles honestly looks like something I'm really going to enjoy (I *ADORE* the Event Lanes and would love to see an option for a display like this in Timelines as well), but not being able to access or import things from my non-chronicles side of my account is preventing me from using it right now (I have a lot of events / big timelines and I don't want to have to enter all that twice ^^;; )
Oh, related but having a way to port events/timelines/etc from Chronicles back to the 'main' account would also be nice for those who are (re)creating events and timelines. Or maybe just have it where Chronicles is pulling from the same source so once an article/event is made you can access it for timelines, chronicles, and so on? I'm no expert on coding (in any way) so I don't know how viable that would be. Just wanted to toss the idea out there ^^
This is planned for the next version! You can see the Chronicles roadmap here: https://blog.worldanvil.com/2022/06/24/chronicles-roadmap-see-whats-coming-next/
Ah! Thank you, I hadn't had a chance to read the roadmap yet when I posted my comment, thank you for letting me know ^_^
