The Education system on The Station

There are many students and teachers from other planets that would jump at a chance to come to The Station to learn as an exchangee...
The Station's education system consists of 13 years, all of which are compulsory.   On The Station, compulsory education starts at age six and ends at age twenty. After the school graduation ceremony, children will have their maturity ceremonies and be considered adults in the eyes of the Government and most of society.

Grades

  • Preschool: is during one year when the children are the age of 6. This is also referred to as grade 0.
  • Primary school: is during the ages of 7 to 9 and these years are referred to as grade 1-3.
  • Junior school: is during the ages of 10 to 12 and is refereed to as grade 4-6.
  • Middle school: is during the ages 13 to 16 and is referred to as grade 7-9.
  • High school: is during the ages 17 to 20 and is refereed to as grade 10-13.

  • Types of Schools

While it is important for the society that all inhabitants have the exact same access to education, it is equally as important that everyone has a choice. That is why there are three types of schools on The Station.
  • Public Schools: Owned and run by the government, these schools provide standardized education accessible to all.
  • Independent Schools: These are owned and run by corporations or foundations and are often founded by the Sections of The Station. While they follow the government’s curricula, they might offer specialized programs reflecting the interests or needs of their founding organizations.
  • Private Schools: These are owned and operated by private organizations, funded primarily through tuition fees. While still adhering to government regulations, private schools often offer more specialized or alternative educational approaches.
  • All these schools must abide by the curricula and syllabuses set by the government branch responsible for education. There are regular checks to make sure that the schools follow all the rules. This does not mean that there haven't been any instances where schools have "deviated" from these rules...some schools have even had to close down after some serious violations were discovered.

    Cram Schools

On The Station, education is taken very seriously, and many students attend cram schools in the afternoons or evenings in addition to their regular classes. These cram schools provide supplementary education designed to help students do well. They focus on preparing students for exams, and deepening their understanding of complex subjects.   While attendance is voluntary many parents want their children to succeed and be a cut above the rest. Which means that many children are forced to go even if they might not want to go.   These institutions are run by private organizations, and the quality and reputation of a cram school can influence a student’s future opportunities. While some might criticize the pressure this places on students, others argue that it provides them with the tools needed to succeed in a highly competitive environment.

    After Compulsory School

When a student has graduated from compulsory school they have several options:
  • Entering the Workforce: Some students may choose to start working immediately, taking on jobs that match their skills and interests. These jobs are often low pay. For example store attendants.
  • Vocational School: Those interested in acquiring specific skills for a profession may attend vocational schools, which offer focused training in various trades or technical fields. These schools provide hands-on experience and often have strong ties to industry. Examples of Vocational schools is the Extractor or Police Academies.
  • University: For students aiming for higher education. The universities on The Station offer a broad range of academic disciplines and research opportunities. Admission to university is competitive, and the preparation often begins years earlier. Professions after university is usually academic, like teacher, scientist or researcher.

Great overview of schooling. The idea of cram school makes me so stressed, but I'm sure I would have gone to one if they were common in England. XD
