Thayziere Syndrome is a disease caused by the Thayziere-Xanthium virus (more commonly referred to as Thayziere-X).

Originally, only Dolmu were affected, though through constant interactions with other species, the virus developed so that it was capable of infecting them. Those with the disease display a range of physical and mental symptoms.

Whilst the disease is considered uncommon, outbreaks can occur quite easily. A collective of medical and healthcare services have set up dedicated screening sites in areas where Thayziere-X is present to try and prevent outbreaks, and have also begun to include Iradynoth as part of the mandatory vaccination procedures for those travelling to areas where infection is possible.

The Osyr Medical Aid Foundation, in collaboration with the various governments of Osiron, will now include Iradynoth as part of their travel vaccination procedures for Thay Kallus Alpha and Thay Kallus Delta. This ground breaking vaccine will no doubt make travel safer and simpler for all.

Causes

The Thayziere-Xanthium (Thayziere-X) virus found in Dolmu is the sole cause. The virus can lie dormant in Dolmu for years, making it difficult to catch.

Herds of Dolmu are screened on a monthly basis to avoid outbreaks and those that test positive are culled to ensure that the virus does not pass into spacefaring communities. Whilst the virus is usually passed to spacefaring species through the consumption of infected meat, contamination can also occur through contact with an open wound.

Symptoms and Disease Progression

Stage One - Physical Symptoms

In the first stage, Thayziere Syndrome causes changes to an individual’s physical appearance, centred around the facial appearance.

It takes between 5 and 10 days post infection for the physical symptoms to display, depending on the species of the individual and the tolerance of their immune system.

After that 5-10 day incubation period, the eyes of the affected individual will become bloodshot. These bloodshot capillaries will take on an unusual colour that is different to the individual’s typical bloodshot visage:

    • Dreggans & L'Oris - bloodshot eyes will be bright yellow
    • Terrans - bloodshot eyes will be a very dark blue or black
    • Ulmaatis - bloodshot eyes will be bright red or pink
    • Zarcantians - bloodshot eyes will be pale blue or grey

The blood vessels around the eyes will also change from their usual appearance as per the colours listed above). Some individuals, particularly those with weaker or compromised immune systems, may find that the blood vessels in their face and neck also take on this infected appearance.

Dear Firstname-Surname{TBC}

We have received the results for your Thayziere Syndrome pre-screening examination.

Diagnosis:
Thayziere-Xanthium virus: PRESENT
Thayziere Syndrome: HIGH RISK

Treatment and Guidance
We have attached the medical information leaflet for Thayziere Syndrome to this message. This leaflet outlines symptoms and stages of the disease so that you are aware of what to expect whilst undergoing treatment.

As your pre-screening examination has been flagged as HIGH RISK, we have booked you in for a follow up appointment at OMA Facility 17 to discuss treatment options. Attendance is MANDATORY to minimise local infection risk. If you cannot attend the specified date and time, please respond to this message as soon as possible to rearrange your appointment.

Failure to attend the follow up appointment could result in detention by local law enforcement. Travel will be restricted until a treatment regimen has been agreed and commenced.

In some cases, an individual may not present with physical symptoms. These individuals are incapable of spreading the disease to others, but should still seek treatment. This can be difficult as they can be infected for months without knowing, only realising that they have Thayziere Syndrome when progressing to stage two.

The progression time from stage one to stage two varies depending on species:

    • Dreggans - 3 to 4 months
    • L’Oris - 2 to 5 months
    • Terrans - 3 to 6 months
    • Ulmaatis & Zarcantians - 4 to 6 months

Stage Two - Mental Symptoms

In the second stage, Thayziere Syndrome begins to affect an individual’s mental health.

[START TRANSMISSION]

The following list of symptoms are those that have been documented in indivuals affected by Stage 2 Thayziere Syndrome.

Paranoia

Those who experience paranoia symptoms will believe that something or someone is trying to isolate them and will obsessively hang around others. This stems from the virus’ need to spread.

Trying to dissuade the affected individual from such actions will only further convince them that they are being forced into isolation. This can in turn lead the individual to become violent.

Intense Bouts of Anger

Some individuals may find themselves inexplicably quick to anger. These bouts of anger occur at random intervals and can be so intense that the individual may not even remember anything that occurred during these periods.

Whilst not necessarily correlated with paranoia symptoms, it can make any violent reactions as a result of said symptoms more prominent.

Increased Energy Levels

The most common symptom that presents itself in stage two is an overabundance of energy.

This can lead to insomnia if Thayziere Syndrome is left untreated as the individual will be kept awake by their excess energy and a desire to get up and do anything, although general treatments for insomnia can be used to mitigate the severity.

Extreme Impatience and Increased Risk Taking

Another common set of symptoms of stage two Thatziere Syndrome. This is typically a result of the affected individual’s increased energy levels.

The impatience stems from the excessive energy levels. It can also result in increased agitation, particularly when trying to stop the individual or get them to rest.

The increased risk taking is a slightly less common variation of the symptom, whereby seeking out and undertaking high risk activities temporarily burns off that excess energy.

Treating Thayziere Syndrome

Until UGY 6717, there was no cure for Thayziere Syndrome - only a lifetime treatment regimen that required weekly doses of Luminaris Xanthos mediciation.

In some cases, such as those where affected individuals struggled with extremely detrimental energy levels (to the point of insomnia), additional medication would be prescribed to relieve these symptoms.

Now, things have changed.

Iradynoth is used as a vaccination, offered pre-contraction of Thayziere-X, and Iradymorpas Supplements are used to treat those already affected by Thayziere Syndrome.

[START TRANSMISSION]

Below is guidance supplied by the Osyr Medical Aid Foundation regarding Iradynoth vaccinations for the prevention of Thayziere Syndrome and the use of Iradymorpas Supplements as a treatment for affected individuals.

Iradynoth Vaccinations

These vaccinations are available for all spacefaring species (Dreggans / L’Oris / Terrans / Ulmaatis / Zarcantians) through the OMA Foundation, or directly through their designated healthcare provider(s). They are also available to veterinarians for use in xenofauna.

Iradynoth must be given before Thayziere Syndrome is present in an individual. It can be given in the incubatory period of the Thayziere-Xanthium virus being present (1 week from infection). Otherwise, Iradymorpas Supplements must be used for treatment.

Only one dosage needs to be given. A single dosage of the Iradynoth vaccine will last for 10 years.

We advise that any individual frequently travelling to locations where the Thayziere-Xanthium virus is present undergoes ensures that they are up to date with their Iradynoth vaccination.

Iradymorpas Supplements

Treatment should be started as soon as an individual has contracted Thayziere Syndrome.

For those in STAGE ONE, the following treatment schedule is advised.

    • Dreggan
150mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested twice daily for 7 days
    • L'Or
150mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested 3 times daily for 7 days
    • Terran
200mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested once daily for 10 days

    • Zarcant
200mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested twice daily for 14 days

For those in STAGE TWO, the following treatment schedule is advised.

    • Dreggan
250mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested once daily for 10 days
    • L'Or
250mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested twice daily for 10 days
    • Terran
300mg Iradymorpas Supplements, as tablets, ingested twice daily for 14 days

Iradynoth and Iradymorpas Supplements - Development and Trials

In UGY 6668, a breakthrough was made in the search for a cure.

The Osyr Medical Aid Foundation had been hard at work trying to develop a way to eradicate Thayziere Syndrome in Dolmu when they uncovered what would be the final piece of the puzzle. The trial period began a few months after the breakthrough in a controlled laboratory environment.

When the researchers were happy with the results, they opened up the trials for Dolmu keepers and farmers. This went on for a few years whilst in the background the foundation was also testing and preparing for trials in spacefaring species.

By UGY 6675, trials had begun in Terrans, Dreggans, and Ulmaatis. A couple years later and the trials would be opened up to Zarcantians and L’Oris as well.

It took time. Years of it. Eventually, in UGY 6717, the usage of Iradynoth was signed off, and the rollout of the vaccination programme began in earnest. Iradymorpas was signed off as a valid treatment option for current sufferers in UGY 6721.

Affected Species

Many species are susceptible to Thayziere Syndrome. The origin of infection is usually thayx-xenofauna{tbc} - other species that contract Thayziere-Xanthium and develop Thayziere Syndrome do so as a result of consuming infected meat. This means that it can effect all spacefaring species, plus natural predators of thayx-xenofauna{tbc}.
