Beth, how come you get two pledge articles? Well you see, last year I had a single article on Osiron that linked back to all of my SC 2020 articles, and I’ve decided to do things a little differently this year. In order to showcase both Ma’rune and Osiron in the light that they deserve, I’m making separate pledge articles and compilation articles for both worlds. As far as the compilation articles are concerned, they’ll still link to articles in both worlds, just in case any of my Osiron followers want a taste of the fantasy life (or vice versa if you’re a follower of Ma’rune).
The other reason is, well, so that I can talk a little bit about the WorldEmber pledge I made here back in December and what I’ve learnt from the very early burnout I experienced from that.
For my ups and downs for last year’s Summer Camp, take a look at my pledge over on Ma’rune. Otherwise, let’s hop right on in.
WorldEmber Fallout
I have to admit, I was more than a little disheartened to not complete WorldEmber. I was really excited for it, but within a couple of weeks I was well and truly burnt out, to the point where I don’t think I wrote anything until well into January 2021. It was going to be my time to expand upon the (very) small amount of world building I had already done for Osiron, but I just couldn’t do it.
I still, at least, have the WE pledge article that I can work from. There’s a table of ideas on there that I’ll keep in mind for the future and hopefully some of those ideas might fit with a few of the SC 2021 prompts. (If not, I’ll hold out until this year’s WE where I’m determined to do better).
After all, sometimes you’ve just got to make the best out of a bad situation. For me, WE 2020 was a bad situation - maybe I wasn’t in the right headspace for it - but that doesn’t mean I can’t salvage the scraps of what I wanted to do and turn them into something this Summer Camp.
Focus
A little bit more of a wider scope here than what you’ll see over on the Ma’rune pledge. I mean, come on guys, space is a pretty big place after all. What I am going to do is keep it Terran related.
With that in mind, here are the areas of focus for any Osiron articles:
- Terran history in Osiron, including important figures and events
- Expand on the Terran Nomothetic Collective organisation
- Areas of interest on Chatau's Landing
Like I said I’m hoping that some of the articles I had in mind for WE will be relevant to SC 2021 (fingers crossed), so just to remind myself of those here’s a quick and easy link to the WE pledge:
The Pledge
(Okay, don’t be so formal this time, no pressure)
I, Beth, will complete all 31 prompts for Summer Camp 2021 - no wait, don’t think I managed to be less formal there did I? Oh well.
Anyway, same as the Ma’rune pledge. 31 prompts. 300 words minimum. Personal goal of 750 words. If I can do that over the course of the month, that will put me at a total of 23,250 words (ish).
Now, you’ll know I’ve talked a lot about WE on this pledge doc. I’ll be looking to do it again, better this time, so that I can give Osiron some much needed worldbuilding love. If I can write 750 words for each article, that will take me well over my WE pledge target, which will give me a much needed confidence boost when December finally rolls around. So yeah, I’ll enjoy myself whilst writing these prompts out. But I’ll also take pride in the knowledge that, if I achieve this pledge, I should be able to complete this year’s WE too.
Wish me luck - and good luck to all the rest of you that are attempting Summer Camp 2021!

Which project are your worldbuilding efforts tied to?A top secret project! It's going to be a series centred on the Terrans and the Cerberus Fleet - and that's all I can really say for now!
Two worlds - Osiron and Ma'rune!
As above, all things Terran. Their history, their orgainsations, the locations that they call home in this new land that they have found themselves in. All of that will tie into the series and explain why a whole lot of trouble is about to go down.
31 prompts for that shiny diamond badge. You can read more about it on the Ma'rune pledge, but essentially I'm setting myself a personal goal of 750 words for each article.
I'm going to schedule in an hour a day for SC, and a couple of hours at the weekends. I'm also planning on getting the ideas down (and maybe some writing) during my work breaks - might as well use the time if it's there! I've also got a few days booked off work mid July which I intend to use as catch up days (or days to get ahead of the prompts, but that will depend on how far through them I've gotten by that point)
My main support network will be my awesome hooligans friends. I'm hoping to be a little bit more active on the WA discord too!

I like how this pledge article was more focused on the fallout of World Ember. The burn out is real. I hope you don't get burnt out this Summer Camp! Remember to come chat with us in #challenge-discussion if you need a boost! :) Good luck! (The typo is here too D: )
