Wild Magic

Manifestation

When the veil between the various planes of existence is vulnerable or even compromised, attributes from the other planes can escape and interfere with the Material Plane. This can manifest in many different and completely unpredictable ways. From conjuring otherworldly creatures to surging elemental storms, nothing is outside the realm of possibility. In regions of Oryth that are most vulnerable such as on the continent of Ma'kylava, these can occur more frequently causing Archmages and Scholars alike to flock to these locations to learn more about them or even attempt to harness their energies.

Causes

When there is a surge of Wild Magic, it is usually the cause of a dimensional tear in the fabric of reality. Due to the chaotic nature, this tear can widen, shrink, or even vanish completely. However, on rare occasions, it can move, focusing on an item or even person of interest, causing Wild Magic surges to erupt all around them at unexpected times.

Localization

Surges of Wild Magic can occur in tears in the fabric of reality, but only tend to occur on the Material Plane. A tear the size of a coin can cause a series of catastrophic events and if left unchecked, can grow in size. Such tears can be tended to by powerful mages, but can never truly vanish with the aid of spells. Barriers and spells are put in place that cause the surges to be contained within a small area. Large tears are special cases, requiring great structures of arcane power such as the Arcane Pylons of Odyssia on the continent of Ochrid.

This tear in particular was caused during the great Divine Wars and was left unchecked for so long that the once utopian Secundus country of Odyssia was turned into a barren wasteland with extreme cases of Wild Magic Surges and Arcane Storms.
