Rattling Winds
Watery eyes, coughing, and shortness of breath are common around those nearby. And they are the lucky ones
There are many fruits and vegetables across Elviria that have side effects when eaten. Mela Berries
, for example, can cause intoxication when consumed in moderate quantities, or on an otherwise empty stomach. Prudya's also known as "toot fruits' cause gas in the digestive system, leading to, unsurprisingly... "toots". These things on their own, while uncomfortable, are manageable. The problem occurs when you eat both uncooked Mela Berries and Uncooked Prudyas at the same time, and the results are unplesant, both for the one who ate them, and for anyone who happens to be downwind.Transmission & Vectors
Generally considered "food poisoning", eating uncooked Mela berries and prudyas seems to have the unusual adverse effect of amplifying one or more effects of each.
It is not something that is "transmitted" in the typical sense of an illness, but it is most certainly 'experienced' by unfortunate passers-by.
Causes
Fortunately, the only known way to get rattling winds is to eat the 2, uncooked, in combination. Some way, somehow, though not fully understood, is a reaction that causes misery for all involved.
Symptoms
The symptoms are akin to eating either of the fruits alone, with a couple of very notable additions:
- Inebriation (common of eating moderate amounts of mela berries)
- Gas (common of eating uncooked prudyas)
- Upset stomach (common of eating moderate to large quantities of either)
- Nausea (common of eating large quantities of either)
- indescribably foul-smelling flatulence
Treatment
Treatment usually involves getting at least one of the effects of the berries out of one's system.
Common treatments include:
- Drinking lots of water, to try and flush out the mela berries (same as alcohol)
- Force the gas out. Through the mouth is preferred, though it still smells.
- Induce vomiting
- invoke healing magic of the water element
Prognosis
This condition is generally not fatal, unless you have consumed inordinate amounts of both prudyas and mela berries. Vomiting would be more likely as a result
The symptoms start with mild discomfort and a rumbling stomach. They are fairly easy to overlook. Then comes the gas, which is when the problems start, mostly for unsuspecting bystanders.
What follows are nearly compolsory, and often silent releases of built up gas from one's hind quarters, ya know, farts. Elviria does use the phrase "silent but deadly," and in a couple of documented instances, this is very literal, as death has been an observed side effect of a bystander with a particular sensitivity to scent, and a rather weak constitution.
Sequela
People will probably look at the afflicted as if they are devil-spawned creatures, with just as much disdain as Blightspawn, albeit through watery eyes and coughing.
If anyone is aware of you being under this condition, yoiu can expect to be barred entry from essentially anything, and a healthy distance kept between you and anyone around you. There may even be magic cast on you (likely without your consent) to contain the odors to your immediate person.
Prevention
Prevention is very simple:
Don't eat uncooked mela berries AND uncooked prudyas at the same time. Ensure at least one of them has been roasted or otherwise treated with heat
Cultural Reception
Affecting all cultures and species equally, the common result, if it is known that you have the condition, amounts to "eww, get away from me".

Ye Ole take on "beans beans the magical fruit the more you eat the more you toot"
Pretty much, just somewhat worse lol
