All is Fair...
Its by far the most entertaining 'war' for those who get to witness it.
Contains spoilers for Fragments of a Sky - Sun storyline
I must say, watching 2 disgraced and displaced nobles trying not to fall for each other is far more entertaining than the phrase suggests.
From the day Eber and Spica first met, he as a captive exile and she as a judge to decide his fate, these two did not like each other. Their respective species were most of the reason why, but Eber's circumstances and the charges leveled against him honestly repulsed Spica to the point that the only reason Eber was not executed was a treaty the Drow formed with the Guardians. More to the point, she'd have been executed for having him executed.
So she did the next best thing, and had him soul-bound to her secretly adopted child and exiled them both for the safety of said child.
After they unsealed a millennium later, they miraculously reunited with slightly inverted roles, and each thing they learned about one another made them detest each other a little less...
The Conflict
Battlefield
Literally anywhere Spica and Eber meet
The Engagement
Usually witty banter, sarcasm, and emphasis on a pet name, or a title spoken with derision.
This has recently escalated to acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, along with consideration for the other party's well-being. Tea and/or cookies may be involved.
Outcome
The staff at Azidon Fortified Manor has become rather busy, and unusually enthusiastic.
Aftermath
At least one wedding.
A strained and somewhat awkward alliance between Drow and High Elves in which dumplings are an absolute must.
...Solaris feels... kind of awkward, but glad at the same time. "It's complicated, alright?!"
Historical Significance
and the rest, as they say, is history.
Legacy
Eber's curse needs to be removed first...
In Literature
There's a civil document... somewhere. Actually, a staff member had it copied and hung it somewhere. Eber and Spica are not aware of this. Solaris is, and still chuckles about it.
