Iatromantis Xenophon

Wisest of Mages

Appearance

With the most obvious descriptor being elephantine, Xenophon is a loxodon of many years. His leathery skin is covered in wrinkles, and he is garbed in a great, billowing, robe that, while purple once upon a time, has long since faded to greys and muted colours. Other than the obvious, he bears some scaring upon his enormous ears, and wears a golden circlet engraved with a star at the front signifying his chosen Goddess.

Personality

As one could expect from a being his age, many know Xenophon for his wisdom and guidance. Though he speaks slowly, like many others of his race, even the most impatient students are more than willing to wait for his words, for there is always something to be learned from them.   Despite his long days spent in the shrine and many hours spent praying or acting as a pillar of the community, there is still some mischief behind his eyes. More than once he has sent a student into the library despite knowing they've been barred, or "accidentally" asked a mage who specialises in frost magics to cook a meal for the sanctuary.   Yet many claim even these acts are streaked with foresight, and that those being pranked are still gaining something valuable from the experience.

Abilities

An ancient priest with a memory to match, Xenophon's mind is filled with powerful magics and long-forgotten secrets. He is rare (though not unique) amongst spellcasters in the Varolian for his ability to cast both arcane and divine spells, with two specialisations; divination and healing magics. He is able to mend any injury his people suffer, and fortell events that will affect his sanctuary with startling accuracy.

History

Hermit of Stars

At some point, long ago, the Sanctuary of Knowledge was once a grand temple to Olsír, outfitted for prayers rather than study. But it fell to ruin and disuse over the years, and was rediscovered by scholars over a century ago. When they found the ruins, Xenophon was the only thing living there.

Master of the Sanctuary

As his home was rebuilt around him, Xenophon naturally slid into a role of authority, guiding those who came for knowledge or power both. In addition to his power and wisdom, he held a clear connection to his Goddess stronger than most others; she would whisper to him while he prayed, allowing him to reveal or learn of the endless secrets in his domain.
