The battle against Izrador is lost, the forces of the light broken and scattered. But there are still those who refuse to let the war die and who pursue their dreams of vengeance no matter the odds. They are as likely to be enslaved halflings and old, ailing servants as they are to be powerful warriors. They know they may never again face Izrador’s troops on the field of battle, but they have learned to strike from the shadows and take their victories where they may. These hidden killers, sworn to battle the Shadow to their dying breath, probably account for as many dead soldiers of the enemy as any freerider or dwarven tunnel-fighter.

To be an avenger, one must be dedicated to stymying the Shadow at every turn, and through any available means. Many avengers are more spies than assassins, gathering information about their oppressors and dispatching it to the remaining bands who fight against the Shadow. They know that one accurate report can lead to the death of more of Izrador’s minions than they could ever hope to kill alone. Other avengers prefer more direct means of retribution. Many legates have been found dead in their beds, a grim reminder that as long as at least one avenger lives, no minion of the Shadow can consider themselves truly safe.

Вы не спрятаны и не невидимы, поэтому существа всё ещё могут заметить вас, если вы совершите резкие движения, издадите громкие звуки или выдадите своё местоположение другим очевидным способом. Иначе вас будут игнорировать. Также вы получаете преимущество на проверку Мудрости (Восприятие) при попытке подслушать разговоры (происходящие недалеко), пока вы затаились.

Вы не можете совершать действие "Затаиться" во время боя, но если бой начался, когда вы уже находитесь в этом состоянии, вы можете продолжить в нём оставаться. Если вы совершите атаку по цели, которая игнорировала вас или вообще не знала о вашем присутствии, вы получаете преимущество на бросок атаки. После совершения атаки, использования заклинания, или любого другого действия, которое привлечёт к вам внимание - действие этого эффекта заканчивается.

Silencing Strike

Minimum level of 4 and the Lurk avenger heroic path feat.

You learn how to strike a blow that leaves your target gasping and unable to speak (or to shout a warning). When you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can force your target to make a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Intelligence modifier.

If they fail, they cannot speak for 1 minute. Once you have made a silencing strike, you cannot do so again until you complete a short or long rest.

Your GM may determine that certain beings and creatures cannot be silenced, particularly constructs, supernatural beings, and creatures that do not breathe.


 

Study the Target

Minimum level of 8 and the Silencing Strike avenger heroic path feat.

You become particularly skilled at planning assassinations, thefts, and other clandestine operations through gathering information and constant surveillance, and you gain the following benefits:

  • Your Intelligence or Dexterity score increases by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • If you spend at least 8 hours observing a target (this could be an individual or a location) or speaking to nearby inhabitants about the target, you can make an Intelligence (Investigation) check with a DC equal to 10 + the target’s number of Hit Dice (if a location, use the number of Hit Dice of the individual overseeing that location instead). If you succeed, you have advantage on any Deception or Stealth checks you make to gain access to the target individual (or infiltrate the target location).

Deadly Strike

Minimum level of 12 and the Study the Target avenger heroic path feat.

When you have advantage on a melee attack roll and hit a creature, you can make the attack a critical hit.

Once you have made a deadly strike, you cannot do so again until you have completed a short or long rest.


 

Unseen Lurker

Minimum level of 16 and the Deadly Strike avenger heroic path feat.

You are so skilled at passing unnoticed that you seem to fade from sight entirely. You gain the following benefits:

  • Your Dexterity or Wisdom score increases by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  • When you choose to lurk, you become invisible.
  • You can take the Lurk action during combat. You still stop lurking after making an attack, casting a spell, or drawing attention to yourself.
