Биография

Maria Vileeva was born in 1868 in Declana, the newly formed capital of Chervenia, in the family of a middle-level party worker and an ordinary cleaner. Her father could earn enough to maintain a small house on the outskirts of the city. They also had a dog whose nickname was forgotten over time.   Maria's mother caught cholera before she was born and died a few months after her fourth birthday.   After 6 years, a "witch hunt" began in the party circles and as a result of the scandal, her father was accused of espionage on Pledorine. He foresaw that very soon a black car with people in uniform would arrive at their home and, running home, gave Maria the key, saying, "Don't be afraid, daughter, look under the chair when we're not there. Now hide in the closet."   "Opening the hatch, I saw a wooden box. I couldn't believe my eyes at first, but there was a stack of bills inside it. Dines, to be precise. So that you understand, foreign currency is officially prohibited in Chervenia. There was also another note from Dad inside: "Go to my acquaintance dadya Alexei Semenovich in the basement under our house with this money. He will explain the rest to you himself." Well, I quietly went down from our house in just a thin little dress, knocked on the metal door and some bearded man in cheap torn clothes opened the door for me. He introduced himself as Semenych and said that my father had agreed with him to make fake documents for me for a round sum, since he had worked in the migration service before becoming homeless. As if it was of any use in such a country at all! And why are the documents only for me? Because he foresaw that the organs would eventually take him away and he wouldn't need them. But... I understand this now, but then I burst into tears right in front of Semyonych's feet. I handed him the money, and he replied with a small book with the inscription "Passport. Citizenship of The Pledorine Republic". He told me to pack a minimum of things and run to the train station. He said that the only freight train to Pledorin was leaving there soon. I barely had time, because very soon the next people in uniform arrived and confiscated all the furniture in the house, obviously for the "the property of the Party" reason."   Despite the fact that it was summer, I was very cold, but I still got to the train station. It was certainly strange for people on the street to watch a little trembling girl in a dress running in an unknown direction. Anyway, I barely caught that train then. She jumped into a freight car and spent several hours shaking with a pile of some bags. Thank Mirsia, they warmed me at least a little. After arriving in Pledorin, I begged on the streets for 9 years, until...
  • Until what? - asked Will.
  • Maria began to cry.
  • It doesn't matter. Maybe I'll tell you later."
