Session 26 - PT: Shattered Dreams Report

17 SEP 2021   19 SEP 3024 Ǎ12 36288 Ê1   [Travel time modified to accurately reflect RAW travel]   It is the morning of the fifth day of travel. After awakening at 6am and getting on the road by 7am, the party had uneventful travel for about 3 hours. At 10am the party encountered a wrecked wagon train upon the road. It appeared to be a very large supply train, with troop wagons at the front and rear of the train. All the wagons had wrecked in some way, and all people were missing. One soldier was found unconscious trapped in a wagon wheel. The party freed the man, and found that he had been most likely attacked by the giant spiders that had been attacking the party. They also find webbing on the wagons that would seem to corroborate their theory.   After sending McSchmiddy ahead to scout the rest of the wagons to find survivors, they are over run by two waves of giant spiders, including a larger size they had not encountered before. Matters turn worse after a Wild Magic surge from one of Vaela’s spells surrounds the group in a Fog Cloud which blinds everyone, but the spiders.   All but Atlia fall to the fear aura of the spiders, but can do nothing while the fog persists. Atlia stands her ground and casts protection from poison on herself to aid her. Kyo is poisoned and then succumbs to paralysis. Dunkel too wanders off to get out of the cloud. He succeeds, but then is immediately surrounded by spiders and also succumbs to paralysis. Vaela, seeing the danger to the party, literally springs into action. She succeeds on a difficult Dexterity DC check and leaps over the spiders and lands free of the fog. She then cast Lightning bolt back in the direction where she came from. The result was a great slaughter of spiders, with the survivors choosing to retreat. One of the new larger species attempts to drag Dunkel off, but Vaela saves him by turning the monstrosity into a sheep. However, the party is unable to prevent the spiders from carrying off the wagon train survivor.   Atlia was able to find Kyo and McSchmiddy in the cloud and then the party rode down the road for about 2 hours before stopping to rest. The time is 12:30pm and they are just starting their short rest. They traveled 5 hours, or 15 miles already in the day, with 3 remaining (9 miles). They have 83 miles to go to reach the village.
