The Graven Trio
Fanfic for "Pangorio"
"Slobber and Teeth"
The seas whisper of three mimics that stalk the aftermath of every Slobbernaught raid. They are called the Stone-Tongued Three. Where others feast on wreckage and plunder, these mimics exist for only one purpose: to carve the mark of the Slobbernaught upon wood, stone, and steel. Their work is silent, yet speaks louder than any survivor's tale.
The Trio
1 Bitechisel - A squat, blocky mimic shaped like a shipwright’s chisel. Its jagged maw shears through oak or pine as if it were butter. Bitechisel begins the sigil, cutting sharp outlines and angular runes. Survivors often swear they heard its steady tap-tap-tap echoing in the night, like a heartbeat on hollow planks.
2 Scorchgouge - A mimic resembling a twisted branding iron. Its tongue glows white-hot, searing grooves into wood, stone, or even iron nails. Scorchgouge deepens the carving, burning letters into charcoal and leaving smoking scars. The scent of scorched saltwater lingers long after it has gone.
3 Hollowbore - A spiral-bodied auger mimic that never ceases turning. Its round maw drills holes straight through timbers or rocky faces, often forming the “eyes” of the Slobbernaught’s shifting sigil. These hollows sometimes seep seawater, or bleed black ichor, or even whisper faint voices of the drowned.
The Mark
Together, the three craft the Graven Mark, a shifting curse etched upon every ruin claimed by the Slobbernaught. The sigil is never the same twice. To some it looks like runes, to others a gaping mouth, and to others still a twisted tangle of teeth. Touching it is said to draw blood.
Ports that find driftwood carved with the Graven Mark will burn it before allowing it near their harbors. Gravestones touched by the Trio lose their names, overwritten by the Slobbernaught’s curse. Any ship that sails with such a mark upon its hull is shunned, for the sea itself has judged it as prey.
