The Dragonriders of KATT
Among the many alien cultures of the outer systems, none are as striking as the Dragonriders of KATT. They are a distinct ethnicity within a larger web of species scattered across the Orion Arm, united not by biology but by bond. What sets them apart is their connection with biomechanical dragons. These dragons, known as KATT (Kinetic Autonomous Tactical Transports), are both companions and vehicles, merging organic design with adaptive artificial intelligence.
Unlike most warrior traditions, Dragonriders are not drafted, recruited, or bred into their role. They do not gather in training camps or academies. Instead, each KATT is born within the hidden forges of the cosmos and then drifts across the stars, searching tirelessly for the being who matches its essence. When rider and dragon meet, it is not chanceit is destiny. The future of the rider, and what they can bring to the team, is what forges the bond.
Once this connection is made, the dragon becomes the teacher. KATTs are more than machinesthey guide their riders through lessons in flight, defense, and the creation of entirely new maneuvers. Over time, rider and dragon co-develop strategies, combining instinct with innovation. A single pair may introduce new methods of attack or fresh tactics for peacekeeping, which then ripple across enclaves and influence others. The culture holds peace as its highest calling. War is seen only as a tool of last resort, wielded to protect the vulnerable and end tyranny.
All planets that host Dragonriders are considered part of the System of All, a network of worlds bound together by shared protection. Each rider serves not only the galaxy but also their homeworld, acting as guardians who rise whenever their planet faces danger. This dual loyalty to the system and to the individual worldis what ensures their unity and resilience across species and space.
Because the bond is unique to each rider, no two dragons are alike. A KATT’s form reflects the spirit of its pilotsome shimmer with crystalline scales, others glide with translucent wings, and still others bristle with armored plating like living fortresses. Riders themselves come from many alien species, proving that this path is open to all who can answer the call of their destined dragon.
The Dragonriders also keep a common motto, a vow they voice before battle or at the moment of rescue: “To any star, to any world, to any crywe answer.” This oath embodies their creed to rise whenever aid is needed, a living promise carried across the cosmos.
DarthTorLin is one such Dragonrider, chosen by the obsidian-scaled KATT-XD, a being of chrome and crimson light. Together they embody both power and restraint, answering SOS calls from desperate worlds, breaking sieges when diplomacy fails, and above all defending the fragile balance of peace in the universe.
Outsiders often regard the Dragonriders with awe and suspicion. Some see them as saviors, while others fear their unmatched power. Yet wherever a cry for help is heard, there is always the chance that a Dragonrider will emerge from the stars, a living vow that peace will never be abandoned.
