Grief of Breakhull

Fanfic for "Pangorio"

"Slobber and Teeth"

They say it began with a child. Mina, a little girl digging clams on a storm-washed beach, found pink crystals shining in her bucket. Her mother wept, for she knew this was not sand but sea salt, rarer than gold and worth far more. From that moment, Breakhull rose.

The town carved its future into the cliffs, where veins of rose salt glittered like treasure. With each harvest they grew richer, their Pink Sea Trading Company sending painted sails across Pangorio. Sea salt fed the world, curing meat, preserving fleets, and building empires, and Breakhull held it in abundance.

But prosperity drew hunger. The Slobbernaught came on a moonless night, its mimic crew coveting the wealth of pink crystals. The Pink Sea fleet was shattered in hours, their proud merchant ships dragged into the deep or cracked like shells against the hull of the living vessel. The harbor burned, the salt warehouses burst open, and families fled with sacks of salt clutched tighter than their children.

When dawn broke, Breakhull was only ruins and grief. The cliffs still glittered, but the streets echoed with mourning. Survivors swore the Slobbernaught keened as it sailed away, its timbers alive with the cries of the broken town. Ever since, miners claim the salt carries sorrow, that when you lift it in your hands, you feel the weight of Breakhull’s fall.

Every ten years the Slobbernaught returns, driven by its craving for the pink salt. Each raid rekindles the mourning, keeping Breakhull trapped in endless grief. The Blargh Bros are said to sing on the deck as the raid begins, their mocking voices carried on the wind:

"Sea salt, sea salt

Breakhull, hear the call

We take your wealth

We grief it all"

The Pink Sea Trading Company never returned. Breakhull became a ghost on the maps of Pangorio, remembered only as a warning: salt may feed empires, but it also feeds the hunger of Slobber and Teeth.
