Solar System

Geography

The Solar system is centred around the star known as Sol, hence the name. It is the only System inhabited by Humans. It is home to three regions: The Inner System, the outer system, and the Kuiper belt. The inner solar system is home to four planets and one dwarf planet, the outer solar system is home to four gas giants, and the Kuiper belt is home to many dwarf planets.   The first planet is Mercury. It has no atmosphere and is completely inhospitable. There was a research station, MER1, in operation between 2240-2268, however, it is no longer in service but is still in orbit. The second Planet is Venus. In contrast to Mercury, Venus has an atmosphere so thick that most metals would melt under the heat and pressure after a certain point. There a multiple orbital stations, most of which are capturing energy from the sun or mining Venus's atmosphere for Helium, Carbon Dioxide, and other gases that can be used as fuel for long-distance missions. The Third Planet is Earth. Life began on Earth about 2 billion years ago, and no life form is known to have left earth that originated on earth until 1947 when a group of Fruit flies were carried into space aboard a V-2 rocket. Earth is currently home to a population of about 5 billion humans. Almost all of Earth is under the jurisdiction of the Terran Republic. It has a moon, known as Luna, which is home to about 18 million humans. Luna has no natural atmosphere, although a small artificial one has built up over the centuries. It is governed by the Republic of Luna. The fourth planet is Mars. It is home to about 7 million people And governed by the United Confederation of Martians. It has an atmosphere, however, it is not yet breathable and much tinner than earth's. The planet is the only planet other than earth home to flowing water. This is because Artificial mirrors placed in orbit around the poles of the planet have been able to warm up parts of it to temperatures above 50 degrees F. Some Plantlife and Bacteria now live in and around this water. Mars did support live 1.5 billion years ago, but that life has since gone extinct as the atmosphere of the planet fell away. The dwarf planet Ceres is located in the asteroid belt separating the Inner and Outer solar systems. It is home to about 50,000 people, and governed by the Union of Cerens. It serves as the headquarters of the asteroid mining industry, which has gained considerable power over the planet.    The Gas Giants of the outer solar system are all uninhabited, mainly due to high levels of radiation. The first gas giant, Jupiter, is he largest planet. One of its moons, Europa, is home to its own life living in a subterranean ocean. The United Nations ruled in 2231 that there is to be no interference with Europan life. The next planet is Saturn, which has been designated as an International protection zone to preserve Its uniquely complex and large rings, visible from Earth with only binoculars. Uranus and Neptune are the final gas giants. They have no habitation and no resource so fintrest, which has relegated them to nothing but tourist destinations.    The Kuiper Belt is home to many dwarf planets, comets, and asteroids. Kuiper station is the only permanent settlement this far out. There are research bases on the dwarf planet of pluto and many mining bases on asteroids, but none of these are planned to become long-term settlements.
