Mexico city

The land that Mexico City is built on is a low-lying, largely flooded area that was once a lake. It was first built up by the Aztec Empire in 1325 under the name Tenochtitlan. It served as their civilization's capital under 1521, When Spanish Conquistadors destroyed much of the city and founded the modern Mexico City. After Mexican Independence in 1820, it became the Nation's capital. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the city swelled in size to a point of unsustainability. By 2030, The population of the city was nearing 9 Million, and making matters worse, much of the city was in poverty and crime was rampant. Even worse, the city began to sink as its weight pressing down on the soil below it causing infrastructure to collapse, and some began to fear the city would be flooded and return to being a lake. During the 2040s and 2050s, the population began to decrease and anyone who could flee the city started to do so. In the 2070s, the 1st Terran Republic launched a huge Infrastructure plan to rebuild the city. Almost the entire city was rebuilt, nearly unrecognizable from what it once was by 2090. It became a hub in international trade in the 2100s and 2110s, and even after the 1st Republic collapsed, remained a city of trade and prosperity. In 2160, P.T.I. forces invaded the city and tore down much of what it has accomplished, seeing it as a hive of capitalism. The city would revolt in 2164, and again in 2169, before joining the Great Revolution in 2175 and once again became what it was at the dawn of the 22nd century. It continues with a stable population to this day, although the city continues to struggle with regular flooding.

Mexico City is an odd combination of Aztec, 19th century, mid-22nd century and modern architecture. It is easy to see why is sometimes remarked that every building looks like it was built in another century than the others around it.
