ShadowVille
Go down into the streets that never see the sun. If you can make it a year, you can make it up to the penthouse or die trying
You would have to be desperate to even try to break into ShadowVille—and we don’t usually encourage tourists to risk their lives getting into what most people call Reykjavik's “deadliest district”—but if you are dead serious about seeing ALL there is to see in this city, it might be worth it.
For instance, you may fall in love with the ever-present neons, pulsating lighting across an unending slew of tech and machinery, and ads of all shapes and sizes around every corner that are locked into a constant battle for our attention. All the while, sleepy megabuildings and skyscraping corporate havens tower over the labyrinths of streets and alleys, from which all semblance of hope has been ruthlessly burnt away by the blinding lights of a dark future.
ShadowVille can be elusive, but you can’t deny the sheer wealth of styles on display here, its over-intense liveliness, diversity, and - finally - its beauty on its own—even if it’s skin deep, reflected by the tattoos of its inhabitants and the graffiti on the walls.
ShadowVille never stops being exciting in its many distinct districts, all with their own histories, characters, and unmistakable styles. Together, they form an incredible mix of danger, degeneracy, and opportunity like no other.
But who better to describe the districts than the people who live there? Let them talk. But don't get nerdy; respect them and go out of their way without a fuss if they signal so. Or in other words, just try not to piss off folks while you’re at it. I mean it. Seriously!!
Doing Business in ShadowVille
You may make some sweet deals in that black market. You might also find a thriving business of badass entrepreneurs. Mercs, edgerunners, cyberpunks—they go by many names, but the best thing about them is there’s constantly work to be done. Fixers are always in need of individuals with special skills, so if you want to try your hand, then keep an eye out for lucrative gigs.
History of Shadowville
Shadowville’s past and its people have had an impact on the larger Reykjavik in its look and feel. The various districts differ from one another, and at every step you can see that the city is alive and belongs to the people who have left their mark on it. Rebuilt as a touristic entertainment magnet from scratch in the late 2030, by 2087 the years of corporate control, rampant poverty, and gang presence have left their mark on everything from ShadowVill's architecture to its fashion. From the sleek and imposing CryptoScraper to the forgotten stretches of the Badlands, each part of ShadowVille contains a rich history and lively citizens, whose attitudes and behaviors reflect the city that’s shaped them. Individual districts all hold unique identities, showing off just how alive every area feels—and how much it owes to the people who populate them.
