Jungfrau Railway

Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, the row of three dominant Swiss Alps mountains standing side by side have fascinated poets, painters and intellectuals for centureies. And with the glorifications and heroism of their first ascents, soon the idea was born, to reach those lofty heights with a cablecar to offer such incredible, emotional experiences of being such close to the sky, freely standing above everything and enjoying the views of the purity of large snowy glaciers and rocky mountains: everything so much bigger and older than us but still connected. Beeing at the top is not just a viewpoint, but an all embracing, deep physical and mental experience one will never forget.

The construction of the railway in 1894 - not the first of its kind - soon has become an iconic century-project with international recognition. Of course it had its deadly dramas and issues, but, all in all the construction (no machines, all from hand and polar dogs pulling sledges during winter-time) went quite smooth with the challanges for digging through solid rock and moving ice turning out to have been minor problems when considering the political issues the project had to circumvent and maneuver on local (overtourism), national (nature protection) and even international (why investing into a retarded non-civilized cow-country at all) levels.

The first etape to the glacier's border was heavily celebrated and the 450 rich and influential guest pampered with unpreceded care to make them invest into the next, ways riskier etaps laying ahead and the hydroelectric power station delivering the energy for drilling.

And this is when the Swiss nuclear research and military silently started to sneak in, slowly but surely taking influece on the next etapse and whatever side-tunnels, caverns, machinery, security, weapons etc. were constructed in parallel to turn the three mountains into an invinsibel secret fortregg and nuclear recherge facilities with unpreceeded dimension and only kown to a few, as all foreign (non-Swiss) workers only have seen what was needed for their workd and beyond that were strictly bound to confidentiality agreements where rumors went that some potential traiters lost lifes due to staged "accidents". And as security was put first, nobody ever got access to those additional constructions right from the beginning - and the only historical trace and early proof of existance was the 10th fold amount of material, personal etc. orderd, transported and used than really was requierd for the railway.

And so, finances never really have been an issue as well and onboarding and pampering the investors turned out to have been more show to distract the public eye from what really was happening behind the stage.

So, the Sphinx Observatory above the top JunfrauJoch station never was just an ordinary astronomical platform the Swiss government has demanded as some kind of compensation for the "occupation" of Swiss Alsp, but primarely has been constructed as just one of the many exposed observation platform of the underlying fortress from where not only the heavy cannons were guided but from where top noch radar, infrared and frequency interceptoin devices have delivered airial and terrestrial intelligence reacing wide accross Swiss borders into French, German and Italian territorry and with the advent of orbital stationary satellites even beyond.
