Fallen Out of Time Syndrom - FOOTS

"No one is superior. No one is inferior. No one is equal either. In a world that measures self-worth by achievement, you're enough just as you're"
— The Swarm 89%

Timefrozen people are a privileged subgroup of the "Rich" who could afford cryopreservation (sometimes called biostasis or cryonics) in the late 50s already and have woken up recently when the genetic codes responsible for aging got cracked and people of all ages do transplants with age-part replaced stem cells in which damaged or diseased stem cells are replaced with healthy ones as well.

As cryonics is an advanced medical procedure that places a person in complete biological pause after their legal death to keep keep the corps alive until recent medical technology advances, cryonics offered customers then the opportunity to benefit from todays technologies and potentially live longer lives than possible at their time, or - given that technology is still advancing at the same pace - might even live forever.

Why the negative mental effects of a 30-year time-gap have not been foreseen then remains to speculation. However, we cannot believe that the analysis of 30+ years of being "off-grid" in a literal sense has simply been forgotten. At least not for budgetary reasons or for being too time-consuming or complex: such research was already done along the first Mars civilization projects and long-running interstellar missions. More plausible is the assumption that those side effects just got dramatically underestimated, especially when compared to other, way more dominant risks of being frozen to permanent, non-recoverable death. Maybe the founders even did the research but have covered up the results and got the leading social-media paid for not mentioning it. At least the "Swarm" gives this scenario a 91% probability.

So what are those effects that are summarized under the Fallen Out of Time Syndrome?

1. Depression due to physical limitations: Many physical issues are because early customers have "died" at old age where physical damage to bones, teeth, and supporting structures has already happened, and therefore - even today - can not be repaired by just switching to young cells alone but need to be replaced, one by one. However, many customers are too old and too weak to endure such trauma and therefore get stuck with this state where they find themselves alive in a somehow still dead body, with great brains and well-working organs and nervous systems but still bound to wheelchairs, beds, and worse. All this often results in serious depression, and many who were still able to afford it have chosen to cryosleep the next 30 years, whereas others have chosen final exit.

2. Social Integration Angst: As if being "rich" would not have been stigma enough, belonging to the generation that has caused climate change made the public frown at every "CryOld" as they were called. Supported by the Swarm by 87% the public opinion would have considered it fair that the extreme costs for keeping "CryOld" alive should be spent for reparation for what this generation has destroyed. So under permanent threat to be deprived of fortune and with no plan nor hope to become a valued member of society again they shared the fate of the physically disabled: depression leading to an other cryo-session or final Exit.

3. Fallen Out of Time Syndrome: The ones who have died young (many due to an illness, accident, or suicide) and had the family support and finances to get back to business and purpose again, getting married and having families once more still feel permanently strange in their shoes. A feeling of not belonging. Of not being in the right skin. Some say it is similar to permanent jet-lag when the soul is still trying to catch up with the body. Many feel worthless and that they are not deserving of this life. They cannot feel real passion anymore for anything, and all emotions feel just like chemical reactions without a target. Some speculate that the soul got damaged during inactivity, that it got passive, that it wants to "go home" because it is "fed up" with waiting and cannot bear the idea that it might remain locked into this body or life forever.
