The Berini Berini improved on this invention and created scented soaps with spices and perfumes in them that gave them a large influx of wealth during the days of the @Berini Empire.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Soap is generally a hard block that needs to grated to be used in water for things like washing hands, clothes and dishes. There are some luxury soaps which are softer like modern soaps.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Soap is excellent at cleaning dirt and grease because it's made of molecules which are hydrophilic on one side and hydrophobic on the other. This means that it can bind to the hydrophobic fats and oils and yet still be washed away by water.

Compounds

The ingredients for soap include alkaloids like ashes suspended in water combined with some sort of fat or oil. Some common fats used are:olive oil, lard, cow fat, sheep fat, horse fat, seal fat, whale fat,and others.

History & Usage

History

Nobody knows where or when it was invented, but it became widespread in many lands around the Hu-Balai sea by the 23rd century B.B. It reached Lefan at around the 20th century B.B due to trade via some of it's eastern colonies.

Everyday use

It's mainly used for cleaning hands, clothes and dishes. The rich folk like relaxing in warm bathes with luxury soaps.

Cultural Significance and Usage

In some places, getting good soap is really hard, so if one gets his hands on some, he might put it in a display case or make something pretty out of it to off how cool he is to his friends.

Hazards

Soap factories smell really bad. Nobody wants to live next to a soap factory and soap makers are looked down upon in many places. In certain places it's implemented in the legal system that a wife can ask the courts for a divorce from her husband because of the smell if she marries a soap maker or a tanner.

Environmental Impact

The smell from the soap production can have a negative impact on a nearby town's or city's economy. Soap is also a pollutant as soapy water is simply washed away into the nearest body of water (like a river).
