Dodecadromedary
The Dodecadromedary is one of Ulaans strangest native creatures. It resembles a short camel about waist high, with a very long body and twelve legs on either side. They use the humps on their back to store water and solar magic, making them incredibly useful as living magical batteries. A magic user can tap into the solar magic stored in their water and subsist in the harshest parts of the sand ocean, provided that they brought enough supplies to keep the animals fed and healthy.
Dodecadromedaries are mainly used as beasts of burden, and their adaptations to the desert make them perfect for transport. It is almost impossible for a grown adult to ride one comfortably on its back, so instead the most common use of these animals is to harness two of them together and have them pull you on a sled across the sand. Much like Earth sled dog teams, these animals are loyal as long as they are treated properly by someone who is trained. Even though they look like a cross between a camel and a centepede, these animals have the temperment of huskies.
Dodecadromedaries are unique in the fact that they can eat and digest a lot of the native flora that has become too saturated with magic for normal people to eat without getting sick. This adaptation has made them exceptional at surviving in the harsh desert, as well as not needing safe, untainted food that can be saved for the driver.
