Session 30: The Sunken Temple Treasure Hunt Report
General Summary
The party continues their search of the room they had just slain the four Undead Priests of Yuan in, finding very little of worth. They continue their search of the floor. Heading down the last arm of the hall they have yet to explore they come across two stone doors. They check the north door first. Inside they find a room with a mural of a snake with shining eyes. At the end of the mural is a stone altar with a book. Ganbold pushes in following the drawing of the snake. He approaches the altar without any problems. However on his way back he can't help but be drawn to they shining eyes of the snake. His mind is quickly dominated and is ordered to kill his friends. He does so, attempting to run Hanz through. He was nearly successful as well. However the action of harming his friend managed to shake him out of his stupor. The party quickly leaves the room, to not allow further incident. The party heads to the last door on this floor, as they open it they find stairs leading down, however they are met with a pair of glowing red eyes. The wraith that haunts these stairs is quite deadly and proves this by attacking Hanz. As the vitality is drained from his very body he is left severely weakened. The rest of the party manages to slay the undead specter before it could do further harm. The party pushes down the stairs to find another dark, cool level of the temple. They begin their search finding many doors and rooms. They find the following, a scroll room with a magical scroll of water breathing, a room that appears to be a mess hall with four hostile Undead Yuan Priests. A barred door with an undead Yuan priest who is acting crazy. He is also the likely culprit in defacing the top floor of the temple. The group also find Alisstar's quarters where they are attacked by a shadow serpent. They find his journal on a desk within his room. They also find two quarrelling undead Yuan priests who are arguing about everything. They have drawn a line down the center of the room to split their room in half. They also discover a stone statue of Yuan, however they decide to leave it alone thinking it might be dangerous. After exploring this floor the party takes another set of stairs that lead further down into the temple. They are almost immediately greeted by a large stone door with a picture of a snake upon it. They find no way to open the door. Although interest to note there is a light coming from another statue of Yuan further in the hall, despite where the party stands, they do not create a shadow within the light. They also spot another door beside the statue, light pours from underneath the door. The party however decides to head north to where another door resides, as they open it they are assaulted by a hoard of zombies. Both Human and Halfling. The room appears to be a holding pen for slaves. Rothgar steps into the room and channels his goddess Guva upon the hoard, ferrying their undead souls to the Spirit World. With the hoard broken, it takes very little effort to slay the remaining stragglers. The party heads back south to check out the door that had light shining through the cracks, within they find a room full of Heat Stones. A magical item as hot as flame, and emits light just the same. Unfortunately they are to hot to handle by hand. Also within the room is multiple eggs that have been smashed and destroyed. This appears to have been once a hatchery. The younglings killed before they could even hatch. With heavier hearts the party continues their search. They head down a hallway and find a set of main doors. Sealed. But leaking water slowly. Clearly opening these doors could flood the entire temple. They find a single room just by these doors, searching inside they find a replica of the Jade Statue of Yuan, decayed furniture, and dust. The party settles down here and spends a long 12 hours, resting a recouping from their battles so far for the day. They get ready to find a way into the large doors. Beyond hard to say. But for sure their can't be that many more floors left right?
