Session 26: The Isle of the Abbey Report

General Summary

The party continues to push their way across the Skull Dunes running into no further trouble after their bout with the Skeleton Juggernaut. They reach a grassy meadow littered with some bushes and trees. A quick scout with Diala's Owl shows one of those bushes clear of anything hostile so the party decides it would be a good idea to take a quick rest before they push their way into the burnt out abbey.   An hour later and a short fifteen minute walk across the grassy field they arrive at the abbey. It is clear someone has been sorting through the rubble as it has been sorted into piles. The party approaches the wide set of stone stairs to where they see a burnt door down below. Diala sets an alarm spell at the top of the stairs and the party then descends towards the door. They listen before opening the door but they hear only what sounds like dice hitting a wooden table. Ganbold and Jorin push the door open, which is difficult given the damage to the door itself. Here they come face to face with a warrior with a spear and shield. Seeing the party he jumps to his feet in a defensive stance and demands to know why the party has come to their island. The party tries to convince them they are followers of Orcus, however Ganbold is not a convincing liar and the man steps forward to attack, Ganbold lets loose an arrow but it is not quick enough as the fighter bears down on him. It is clear this is a very well trained individual as he is able to hold his own against both Jorin and Ganbold, despite Diala and Elitessa backing them up with magic. Things begin to turn for the worse as more cultists join the fray. Including multiple priests who can cast unholy spells of Orcus. The group has a tough fight and they are barely able to pull out a win.   The group then splits up to search all the rooms. They find a bunch of treasure and even a pair of Boots of Striding and Springing. Ganbold finds a hidden door located within the cults altar, opening it. Ganbold can easily tell the halls beyond are much older then the abbey itself. Sharing this information with the rest of the party Diala believes this might be the maze that she had heard rumors about. Somewhere beyond that hall lies a treasure room. The party decides to sleep on it however, they send a quick message out to The Rancor to let them know they will be staying the night within the abbey. They awake the next morning ready to set out towards the maze.
