Session 39: The Devil of Djerg Thago Report

General Summary

The party continues their quest into the mines in search of demons to slaughter. As they travel into the passage that goes west they come into a large crystal filled chamber with a small door and a large set of double doors. Rothgar tries to see if he knows what these crystals are but is unable to determine so. The party then moves south to make sure nothing will surprise them from that direction. In this chamber is another set of doors, and a passage that leads into the mushroom cave they had found earlier. As they wander into the doors to search inside they find themselves in a stone worked hallway with more doors, inside are slightly more fancier rooms. Most likely for mine foreman's. They return to the crystal chamber and decide to check the room past the double doors. Inside a relic of a bygone era. Diala recognizes it as a very rare artifact that allows the enchantment of gear. A very rare find, and most likely the true treasure of this mine. Ganbold puts a torch into the magical green flames and is surprised when he sees the torch instantly disintegrate within the flames.   The party decides to leave it alone for now and heads north up a set of stairs in the crystal room, on the other side they find an underground lake, Jorin scouts the lake itself given his ability to move through water. He finds mostly mundane wildlife, algae, any rocks. Jorin eventually returns to the party and they move forward. The next chamber has a bridge the spands a gorge, part of the underground river flows through here and it is apparent the dwarves have carved a canal as well that feeds into the forge room that holds a water wheel. With nothing of interest they start checking the next area after deciding to come back to the set of stairs that lead down. They head to the stairs that go upwards.   Down those stairs is a long hallway with multiple forks. The first fork the hallway heads south to which they find a doorway and a set of stairs that lead down into a part of the underground lake here. The doorway contains a guard barracks and a lavatory. Nothing of interest once more.   The party then heads back north to check the rest of the hallway. As they travel down they find another doorway that opens to their north and a dead end. As they pass through the door they find themselves in a large shrine for Otarr. Desecrated unfortunatly by the fiends that occupy this area. In fact one sticks out. A large devil that is known as a Horned Devil. A greater demon. The party is quickly assaulted by his attacks, along with the fiendish knights that are within his service. The party splits into two fronts in an attempt to control the situation. A difficult fight however the party manages to pull through with some heavy wounds to show.   After the battle Hanz gets a bit of a sense that he should place Shatterstar onto the altar before them. Nothing happens at first but it quickly changes as it begins to glow, it banishes the entirety of the desecration returning the statue of Otarr to normal once more. Hanz also gets an angry voice in his mind that he recognizes as dwarven, however he does not understand it. When the voice realizes this, it switches to slightly broken common, curses that it's new master is Human then goes quiet. As Hanz picks the hammer up he finds it lighter to his touch. The party finishes a short rest before they begin to explore the rest of the mine. They find no more signs of fiends thankfully. In their search they find an alternate entrance into the mines, beyond the dwarves who wear much silver open things back up to talk to the adventurers. Albeit disappointed the elves lived. They are happy the mine is now safe. The party gets ready to leave and return back to Lord Motoud Woldgrog.
