Session 03: I have a sinking feeling about this... Report

General Summary

The party interrogates Calixto and manages to drag out some information from him. He was hired by Captain Charming Lesner, the Captain of The Rancor. Calixto was offered a good reward to sabotage The Mayflower. He also told the party how they could escape as the The Mayflower was quickly filling with water from the extensive damage of The Maw attack.      The party gathers the survivors of ship and make way to Captain Ivan Volkov and bring him up to speed on what happened. Unfortunately the party was unable to convince him to abandon ship and he remained on ship to keep it steady while the party and survivors escape. The party manages to find The Rancor in the storm with very little problems. As they arrive on board they are met with the First Officer Green Pate, he seems a touch slow and unconcerned about the fate of the rest of his crew, he tells the party it would be prudent to sail to Freeport as it is the safest and more importantly closest port to them. The party tosses Calixto into the brig to deal with him later and go to work on getting The Rancor sailing.   The party spends the next three days at sea. Most of the party learning first hand on how to sail a ship. With supplies out by the third day they arrive at Serpent's Teeth the island chain that contains Freeport. Ganbold Dailkath who is quite experienced at sailing manages to easily swing the small brigantine through the barrier reef surrounding the islands and brings the ship into port. As they step off the ship; the first step of land in over a week. The party is quickly overwhelmed by the bustling dockside. They see ships from all over the world within port, sailors and merchants of all races and backgrounds mingling within the wharves. Money changing hands constantly. However in this time of admiration they are quickly surrounded by a Press Gang. The press gang is quick to gang up on the party looking for easy marks. The party is no push over though and they quickly show them and the crowd watching that they are not to be trifled with easily.   As the last of the press gang runs away disappearing into the crowds surrounding the party they are approached by a brother of the cloth named Brother Egil. He is a young friendly man who is quick to ask the party for help in a matter he needs attending to. He would provide further details at the Bilge Rat, he would even purchase the first round of drinks. The party decides to listen to his offer, given the fact they are now stuck in Freeport given the condition of The Rancor.   At the Bilge Rat the party is met with cheap food that is decent at best, but some of the best ale they have had in a very long time. It is quite cheap as well! Brother Egil begins telling the party of his friend Lucius who had disappeared from the temple two days prior. Unfortunately the higher ups of the temple have declined to look into the matter. He wishes to hire the party to find him. He is willing to pay 50 gold each. 10 now and 40 on completion of the mission. He is also offering to supply any information that he can and any healing if the party needs it. To sweeten the deal he also offers to give a good word to Freland Shipyards a shipwright within the warehouse district of Freeport. Although he can't get the repairs to their ship done for free he can probably get them a hefty discount. Brother Egil also tells a tale on Lucius on what happened to him six years ago, and how he seemed to just change overnight. He would ask bizarre questions, seemed to remember nothing of their friendship, and would treat the temple as his own personal library. It got so bad he was eventually expelled. He left Freeport entirely after that and was gone for four years. He eventually reappeared as his old self but he could not remember anything of the past five years. He was allowed back into the temple eventually.   Eventually Lucius would begin to look haggard. This happened roughly nine months ago. He would have trouble sleeping. He suddenly had lots of questions on what had happened during the five years he was gone. Brother Egil mentions he was incredibly worried for his friend and two days ago when he failed to show up at the temple he went to his home and found it empty. He is worried something has happened to him and the party needs to find out what. Brother Egil has told the party he is willing to take the party to Lucius's home whenever they are ready.
