Session 5: The Beasts and Eshan Report
General Summary
After making his way down, Thelastor finally arrived upon the same muddy ground as Arelastod and Xeyesh. He paused, listened closely, and heard some noise down the western corridors. Meanwhile, Xeyesh drew closer to the mysterious beings of dark, tar-like flesh. They arose from their huddle around the newborn fifth and came over to him- they spoke words in the broken Eshanic tongue, known only to a remarkable few, they asked “are you disappointed with us?” to which Xeyesh explained that he as not, instead he was pleased. Arelastod was hiding in the shadows while this conversation transpired. The beasts explained that other Vozukri from above came down and they joined them, and must have therefore been pleased- while you latest arrivals were not joining them, and must therefore be angry. Xeyesh attempted to learn more, but the beasts were convinced that there was nothing else in the world besides this place and heaven above, to which Xeyesh attempted to offer some new information with limited success. He was deeply interested, however.
Around this time, Thelastor finally made his way over and reached Xeyesh and the beasts. They looked over to yet another Vozukri how had not joined them, and asked again if they were displeased. Xeyesh told them they were still pleased, but the revelations was had that only Xeyesh knew the language, which was quite strange to them. Xeyesh explained the beasts to Thelastor, at least for as much as he knew. Interesting, and perhaps potent for the future. They could not remain here forever, however, and the three of them returned back to the viod shortly thereafter, and from there departed to see those who went to liberate the boat.
Back at the boat, which was recently liberated, the party and the crew began repairing the damage which the Duyor inflicted on it- taking nails and other strange things. Yet, there was a certain fear that the Duyor might return or that a camp of theirs was nearby. Othryus and Qetukris decided to pursue the enemies at a distance. They followed them for around an hour or more until the Duyor halted at a location between two small lakes, building for themselves a small camp as the daylight was waning. Othyrus and Qetukris took note then turned back for home.
By the time they returned, Arelastod, Xeyesh, and Thelastor were arriving on the scene. Othyrus reported the findings of the new Duyor camp to Thelastor, and a plan was devised to leave some people behind to guard the boat. Othyrus, Rhomod, and Yaza volunteered, while all the others walked through the dusklight to reach the viod. Back in the viod, they established watch guards and prepared themselves for any unforeseen attacks.
Later that night, Othyrus was stirred from the monotony of watch by strange appeals from a voice. He followed this Eshanic guidance back into the swampy depths, passing over the same ground to the same camp as earlier. Little did he know that Yaza was awoken by this activity and followed along. Othyrus learned of this along the trail, and the two had a lengthy debate back and forth about whether she should come along. Othyrus relented and allowed her to come along, since she desired to maintain both their safety in this dangerous place. After walking for an hour, they arrived near the camp.
Arriving in the clearing, a great shaded figure was present with three Duyor with many legs and other features obscured by darkness. He was surprised to see another with Othryus, and was swiftly dismissive and hostile to Yaza’s words, and especially her possible motives. He bid that she depart, otherwise he would crush her to pieces with his Eshanic power. Once Yaza departed, the Eshan introduced himself as Kastayos to Othyrus, and explained that the two of them were moving in a similar direction. He positied that if Othyrus showed goodwill and loyalty in the future, perhaps they could work together to survive the coming storm. Othyrus was open to the idea but unwilling to make any sure promises. Kastayos was understanding, but stated that he could not relent his current pressure out of fear or giving his enemies too much freedom, but Othyrus himself would be safe.
The following day, the party and the crew spent morning to night with ropes and winches to unbeach the vessel and return it to some working order. This was achieved without any significant mishap. Getas and the crew anchored at a new location free from sand bars, and determined to leave as soon as possible, perhaps the very nexy day if supplies could be procured.
