Session 16: Space Invaders Report

General Summary

The Rat Pack had only just recouped from their battle with the mummies when they found themselves helping the royal navy defend the Rock of Bral from invaders!

Just A Normal Day

The Rat Pack was recouping from their fight with the mummies yesterday. Maya fed them breakfast and asked when they would be leaving. Kouvian told the group he had some business to attend to and left them. At the same time, Scraps and Giluru returned from the ship, asking how everyone had been. The party filled them in on their adventures from the day before.
Azid wanted to research mind flayers, so they headed for the Library of Spheres. He uncovered quite a bit of information about them, but he was specifically looking into them creating oozes. Unfortunately, he was unable to learn anything about that.
Glebnor researched anatomy with a particular interest in breasts. Stinkbreath said he wanted to learn to read and found a picture book of monsters to browse through.
Their next stop was at Elmander's Star Charts, but it was interrupted by a cry for help...

The Warning Bells

The Magistrate Watch announced that civilians should return to their homes and lock their doors. They also requested that any adventurers willing to help report to them. Azid and the crew heeded their call and went to help. They offered to join a crew aboard the space galleon called Vigilant One. There, they were introduced to Captain Daer Akras. Captain Akras was grateful for their help and had them man the two ballistae on the deck while his men manned the mangonel.
The ship launched into space and prepared to engage the incoming neogi nightspiders. The battle commenced and the Rat Pack proved to be effective at targeting enemy weapons and killing the crew on deck. Thanks to their efforts and that of the rest of the fleet, the remaining neogi were fleeing the battle.

On the Ground

The Vigilant One landed. As the Rat Pack departed the ship, they saw signs of a large ground battle. Dead neogi and umber hulks scattered the streets. Then they heard cries for help coming from down the street. They quickly responded.
They found a pack of neogi and an umber hulk parading through the streets. Geasle ran to engage them but quickly realized his mistake as the towering and powerful umber hulk shredded into the ghoul. The rest of the party moved in to help. Scraps was able to sneak up behind the umber hulk and put down the monstrosity while the rest of the party defeated the neogi.

Heroes of the Rock

After the battle in the streets, they were called back to the docks. There, Mahaxara Khal, Captain of the Royal Guard, awarded them each with gold and a medal of courage. He also gave them a place to rest in the barracks.
They returned to the Rock Rat for breakfast the next day. Maya was swooning over Stinkbreath so much that she nearly forgot to tell them she had a message from Kiara Evensong. Evensong wanted them to come and meet with her at their leisure. With nothing better to do, they decided to head on over.
They met Kiara Evensong for the first time in person, and although she seemed to look young for an elf, she looked very sickly from The Itis. She had people working on getting the ingredients for the cure and thanked them again for their service to her. She also told them she was quite impressed with their work on Bral. They stood up to the Red Masks and helped save the city from the neogi. As a token of personal gratitude, she gave them the deed to Trollskull Manor on Wasp Street. She admitted it was a bit derelict, but she was sure they could do something with it.
The manor was indeed in disrepair. The first floor looked to have been a tavern at one point. The upper floors featured many bedrooms, a tower, and a lounge. There was also a rat-infested cellar. Frillo told them he could start getting repairs underway for about 750 GP. Geasle was happy to pay the gold needed to get the job started.
