Broken Obelisk Session 14 Report

General Summary

Session 14: 21-06-2025

Ron and Trix are searching for the party on The Rock of Bral. Talking to some dockworkers and the harbormaster they find out that they left in a hurry and they settle down in Hunter's Hall until they receive word of the Spelljammer pulling into the dock. A messenger finds them in the hall and tells them the child has been kidnapped and the party has travelled to Neverwinter to recover her. Rushing back to the ship they set off and arrive the next day tracking through the city they find the portal to the Moonstone Mask. Sneaking their way in they find the party in a feast hall surrounded by marks of battle and a couple of corpses.

Bruise reacts by punching Trix in the face and Torold demands an explanation. He explains that he stole a lot of money and items from around the world and that some people are after him to collect his debts. Not recognizing these assassins and not knowing what they are after they start interrogating the captured masked assassin under a Zone of Truth. Removing his mask they see only a grey blob where his face should be although a mouth forms when it speaks.

He reveals that he is after Trix because he stole a powerful magical item from his mistress. Ordered to capture him alive and bring Trix to his mistress. It is Liset Cheldar, owner of the Moonstone Mask, a shadowy figure using magic and her establishment to acquire compromising information on the nobles and influential people of the city.

Going upstairs to the grand hall on the top floor of the Moonstone Mask they meet with the mistress and have a tense conversation about recovering the child. Trix has unknowingly to him stolen a legendary artifact the Orb of True Scrying, an item that allows its user to spy on anyone and see any secrets while doing so. She demands the item or an item of equal value and suggests the Blackstaff, the powerful weapon used by the Archmage Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun, who associates with The Cloak Tower occasionally.

Checking if they have any powerful magic items for trade Kaxxa notices that the Kingkiller sword has disappeared from the bag of holding. Not having much other options they set out for the Cloak Tower to see if they can steal the Blackstaff.

Bruise had some dealings with the Many-Starred Cloaks before during his time in the watch and approaches the door knocking and asking for entry on behalf of the watch. A confused apprentice mage opens the door and leads them inside where the meet Guildmaster Eltoora Sarptyl. She agrees to contact Khelben and sort this out.

Kaxxa manages to disrupt the Ritual casting and demands to see Khelben in his office although the Guildmaster assures him he is in Waterdeep at the moment. Seeing his study filled with magic artifacts but no Archmage they go back to the Ritual circle to summon Khelben.

Upon completion of the spell the magical runes of the teleportation circle light up and a rift in reality appears. A tall man with black hair dressed in mage robes wielding a long black quarterstaff steps through. He introduces himself as Khelben and the party tell him the story of the Illithids and the kidnapping of the child.

He agrees to create a replica of his staff that will disrupt the astral energies of the Chasm and slowly lower the Moonstone Mask into the dark depths. A creation enchanted to resist simple magical attempts of identification. They will stage a magical explosion and fake an escape.

They first make a stop at the Rock of Bral to fetch the magical items they've ordered. Then they return to the Moonstone Mask to present the fake staff to mistress Cheldar and Kaxxa demands to see the child. A summoning spell is performed and the child is revealed guarded by some assassins. After authenticating the staff they leave with the child and head back to the ship.
