Broken Obelisk Session 21

Session 21: 26-10-2025
Kaxxa's scouting of the complex at the edge of the fallen Netherese city Xynthalus marks the start of the party. In the centre of the ruins stands a tall tower, surrounded by many fallen and overgrown buildings. Zombies mill around in circles, seemingly going about their routine. On the edge of the city, there is an amphitheatre and Kaxxa sees a huge monster: an undead tyrannosaurus, a mighty dinosaur with enormous jaws.
They decide to sneak into the city and avoid the undead by flying to the tower. Going into the pocket dimension Kaxxa flies off to the tower. He sees armored undead and robed ones with magical staves outside the tower blocking off the entrances. There are balconies build around the structure and he lands on one of them. There is a portcullis in front of a heavy oaken door barring entry.
After some attempts to figure out a way to open the fence and the door by Trix and Ron, Bruise uses his mighty Berserker strength to lift it up with Torold jumping in to hold it up. Ron quickly darts in and deftly picks the lock and they move inside an old decayed bedroom covered in dust and cobwebs.
They move into a bland featureless corridor and start moving onto a sloping ramp for an hour but never reaching a door or end. Torold uses his divine sense and feels an Undead presence behind the wall. Kaxxa addresses the presence and manages to convince it to drop the illusion.
Suddenly, they stand in a massive hall inscribed by softly glowing magical runes and on a large thrones covered in precious metal and gems sits a blue skinned emaciated corpse in a robe with a crown on its head and a staff in its hands. It moves and addresses the party explaining that he's the Grand Magister Thalaxyr, the Netherese wizard who created the black obelisk and the arcane key that controls it. He doesn't have the shard anymore but has given it to the Sorcerer-King of the city, Khal'Zox.
Currently Khal'Zox is fighting with a high druid of Ubtao. The dinosaur Kaxxa saw is her old companion and she has been trying to get him back. She wants to destroy Khal'Zox and take back her familiar. They can probably find her in the jungles near the city, the temple of Ubtao to the south or at the amphitheater.
They set out to the amphitheater and find the druid there. She says she wants to destroy her pet to get one of the three pieces of Khal'Zoxes phylactery. The pieces are located:
- Inside the T-Rex
- Somewhere in Thalaxyr's Tower
- In Khal'Zoxes palace with his dragon pet
They follow her into battle against the T-Rex. She gets snared by the magical presence of the Sorcerer-King and remains paralyzed and suspended above the ground while the party fights the undead dinosaur.
