Broken Obelisk Session 23

General Summary

Session 23: 23-11-2025

The party starts at the hideout of Yevef Sandru and they learn that the Sorcerer-King Khal'zox has focused the energies of some Netherese device to give the undead extraordinary powers in the region. They know that the last piece is stored with the Grand Magistrate, Thalaxyr Vos. Yevef tells them they should disable the source of this strange magic in the west wing of the palace. It causes the undead to return much faster than usual.

They decide to go after the Sorcerer-King first and hoping that they cut him off from the magic that gives the undead their strange powers. When they approach the palace they see a horde of undead has gathered around the palace and they decide to fly in instead. While flying they notice that a Spelljammer is hovering over the eastern side of the building. A rope ladder lowered to let people off.

On top of the structure is a door leading inside. They find a trap on it and disable it. Heading inside they are affected by a strange magical aura sapping their strength. On the top floor they notice zombies dressed in finery and another in workman's clothes who comes to fix a light. Heading off into the corridor they find some stairs leading down to the ground floor of the structure. There they find several rooms, one with a mass of worker zombies standing still, another room with a zombie stitching bodies together and finally an empty room.

In the empty room they find an illusionary wall with a staircase behind it. A trapped staircase that they magically dispel but noticing the runes slowly regain their power. Rushing down they barge through another door into a large cavern lined with strange glowing purple crystals. In the center is large obsidian pillar emanating magical power with a book opened on an altar. Reading the book they find they can stop the flows of magic through a magical ritual lasting 30 minutes.

As they approach the structure a Construct made from the bones of a dragon emerges from the sand and attacks them. They notice that their spells are weakened and absorbed by the Black Obelisk. Eventually they defeat the creature.

They finish the ritual and the sickening magical aura dissipates. In the book they also find mention of the Mythallar powering a God Cannon, a magical device capable of killing a God.
