Session 32: Moments of Hesitation Report
General Summary
The Scales awaited the comming elections in Amarntine upon the Summer Solstice, finding no ogre attack this holiday, and the elections smooth operation, filling both the Tagavors seat and the many of the Common Council. With this done they left for Aureate to make way for the Dwarven soldiers who wished to leave Amarantine could negotiate their mercenary work with the Clan to the North, and secure their passage off of Ioban. Queen Thalindra was as always delighted to see the Scales, her saviors from the traitorous Aelindon. The addition of 3 units of dwarven troops was welcomed, Aureate was rich but lacking soldiers to fight both this rebellion and repel incursions from neighboring Clan Frost Blood. She presented to the Scales their help could be put towards removing the rebell faction of House Aelindon, or to end the boarder raids from Frostblood. The Scales felt ill prepared to do either, and decided to gather further information. A'lar found a woodsman that would move across fen and field to scout Aelindons forces for him and report back. Adalon scoured the reports the queen had trying to find a pattern, pondering his fath in the lady of Time to see if the threads of fate would show him the rebel lords purpose with no luck.
Not wishing to enter Clan Frostblood with no intel, the Scales used message spells to reach out to Clans Moonfrost and Summit, to learn if Frostblood had been attacking them. Clan Summit was the first to respond, re activating their teleport circle to the Ary and sending one Kistrene Silverpeak, a human with deep auburn hair and crystal blue eyes as envoy to the scales. Her meeting was cautious, informing the Scales their hostilities with Frostblood had simmered and they had not had further conflict since the various coups that occurred in Frostblood had concluded. As A'lar pitched a future alliance, Kistrene sprung at the chance to express Summits discontent with Aureates intrusion on their territory to build their port in west, as well as the exorbitant prices Aureate had been charging for grain and food stuffs for the last year. Finding Summits position reasonable they decided a conversation with Queen Thalindra would be in order. The following day Zanidira Diamondglass an Envoy of Moonfrost would arrive. She was keenly interested in the happenings with the Dracolich of Clan Dark Grove, but had little to say concerning Clan Frostblood as they had not had trouble since the sudden end of the Dragon Wars. Indalell made sure to give both Envoy a fine evening, highlighting the cities many fineries before each returned home. Kistrene was the most sybaritic of tastes, but Zanidira was most willing to speak outside of the meeting concerning business, and she was concerned that A'lars assumptions about Lord Aelindons involvement with Clan Frostblood was wholly incorrect.
The Following day the Scales once more returned to Aureate to speek with the Queen concerning Clan Summits complaints. As they proposed a lease arrangement to compensate Summit, they would be met with a flat and unmoving stare, "Why on Eraneth would I lease land which we have claim to, and have built an entire port city from the ground up at our expense?" A'lar would say calmly, "Well it is a compromise to try and bring many clans together for the common good." To this the Queen would smile ruefully, "Well I am not interested in giving up anything, Clan Summit has cost us plenty, and this city is a massive expense at my peoples feet, to which they will undoubtedly benefit from with their own trade, I will not pay them as well for the privilege to have built it, disputed claim or not." With this impasse the Scales would retire and more closely analyze exactly what this inter clan alliance, empire, confederation, whatever it would be called or what it would look like. This and Ismarils research into the Dark Grove relic would consume the next several days as they waited for the Bronze Wheel Companies next caravan to be ready to depart, hoping to arrest the ring leaders and find the proof of their conspiracy in the process.
