Session 11: The Death of the Divine Report
General Summary
Moses, Bill, Belavor, and Toby enter the portal to Nowhere, the pocket dimension where the Bane of the Divine is held. They entered and find themselves unable to kill their enemies or each other. After solving the puzzle to open the door they immediately see ahead of them a pool of divine water and several books. Before they find themselves able to investigate an illusion spell causes three of the party members to hear screaming from a staircase leading deeper in the tomb. The party tries to sneak in but Tobey, knowing the scream is fake, enters the room and sees a mysterious man sitting by a fire. The man introduced him as "One" the creator of the Bane of the Divine and now its unfortunate prisoner. He has nothing but a smooth face, saying that he has been in this prison for so long that he has forgotten what he used to look like before the Gods trapped him. One created the divine thousands of years ago but the goddess Ethos, who One once served before his family was taken from him, closed him into the tomb so that no one would ever find the power. One brought the party to the Bane of the Divine, in reality a pool of magic and books on how to kill different gods. One says that he has lost too much in his pursuit to kill the pantheon and says that unless the party can give him a good reason they will not be allowed to see the book. Moses and Bill say that if they do not find a way to kill Ohrer then he will then steal the books himself to kill the gods as well as the material plane to punish the party. One reveals that due to this shifting the natural order of the world they will be permitted access to his archives but that he will also allow them to submerge themselves in the pool which will grant a great boon in power (level up twice). One says that after this however, he will perish and the Bane will become dormant until a new protector takes his place. The party entered the pool and spoke with the ones they care about but that are now gone due to different circumstances. Moses realizes that the voice telling him to take the power for himself was his father, who now reunited with Moses' uncle wants his son to unlock the hidden potential lying dormant in his family. Moses is also told that he needs to survive the fight as in nine months he will become a father to his son who due to the potent energy in him will need to learn to control it. Tobey spoke with his uncle Ben and was finally able to move past his death and seeking revenge. Ben admits that it was not Bill who killed him but the mage, a confession that he was not able to deliver before people were hurt. He then said that his aunt May is going to need help as she is going to try to reestablish the monks of Mercy in Lowry but will need a new leader and experienced fighter. Belavor spoke with his parents whose death sent him to begin his adventure with Moses and Bill. They told him that he has been watched over from above and they are glad that he has been able to keep his brother safe through all of the trials and tribulations. The two of them tell him that when this is over the elves are going to need a new leader and they know that he will be a great one. Bill was able to talk to his mother, the one who died causing his first ever rage. She says that she is so proud of everything he has done so far and all of the people that he has helped. She gave him the advice that he can relax every once in a while, when he isn't trying to kill gods. After exiting the pool the party all watched as One began to turn pale, seeing that all of the magic in him has now been given to the party to aid in their mission. While the others were distracted, Moses wanting to please his father turned back the dial of the time traveling pocket watch to before the party arrived to Nowhere to take the power for himself. He found himself in a white void and across from him was Faust, the wizard who created the watch, who asked what reason he had to travel backwards. Moses said that he needed more power to help with the fight against Ohrer and that they would not be enough, but as he was about to go back Ethos appeared. Ethos condemned Moses and grabbed the paladin splitting him into two halves with the same power as the original, sending one back in the past. This caused Moses to realize that one version of him became One and was trapped for thousands of years while he was sent back to his normal self. One as a parting gift gave a note to the party, describing where one last tool he had created was in the study down the stairs. This was the Crown of the Godkiller and would allow them to strip Ohrer of his immortality and let a party member take control of the hells. However, Bill and Tobey wanting to spread the power ripped one gem off removing most of the magical abilities from the crown but allowing them to still heal in the heat of battle. Moses attached the gem that was ripped off to a gauntlet, letting the wielder do full damage to Ohrer and ignoring his resistances. Additionally, Moses grabbed the book on the life of Ethos and how to kill her. The party exited and was immediately greated by Ohrer in Lowry who wanted the weapon that would allow him to kill the gods. On a natural 20 the party convinced him that the crown was the Bane and thinking he had won, Ohrer left. As Bill looked for his wife Nerri he realized that she was taken forcefully and began to look for her but slowly came to the realization that her father Ohrer likely stole her to protect his immortality. Tobey swung on top of the casino and then realized that in the distance there was a large portal over Ultribar allowing an influx of devils to attack the material plane. Flora, the druid of the Great Tree, arrived to Lowry with her allies the Thri Kreen to warn the village of Lowry that there was an invasion occuring across the continent. The party immediately grouped together and began to head to Ultribar uniting with the Dwarves of Torrunn as well who sent a small group of dwarven fighters to aid in the attack on Ohrer's hell manor. The party marched through and found Nerri who was forced to stay in hell but broke free to help fight off the devils from the portals hellside. Nerri, Lyra, Slap Nuts, and Spencer each joined the party to fight Ohrer. The fight was a long difficult fight and the party had headway until the spirits of Ohrers' victims began to storm the battlefield. After becoming bloodied, Ohrer brought the fight to Lowry using a portal and swore to kill at least one of them. Lyra and Nerri ran to cover since they were far to weak to continue making a difference, but helped the townspeople mount large crossbows to fire from the roofs of the buildings. After a joint attack by Spencer and Bill, Ohrer blasted the bottom half of Spencer away causing Moses to feel that it was time to use the Final Judgement. After Slap Nuts put Ohrer to sleep, the party evacuated from the center while Moses charged up his magical attack. He grabbed Ohrer by his scruff and detonated a blast strong enough to render the diety unconscious but leaving nothing bu dust and ash behind where he was standing. Tobey and Bill, knowing that they could possibly pacify the diety if they pulled it off, had Tobey remove the Pearl of Insight while Bill pulled Ohrer away from it's magical connection. The fight was then ended. Ohrer burst into a bright light, and became the angel and protector of the material plane he once was, apologizing for all the pain he had caused. He offered that as a way to hopefully be forgiven he could revive a fallen individual but he would need their body, meaning that unfortunately Moses would not be able to be revived this way. Ohrer brought back Spencer and swore that he would no longer pursue the gods. As the sun set on the battlefield, the party saw the spirits of Jesus and Moses dissapper, now with their unfininshed business completed. --- Five years pass and the village of Lowry, once an abandoned run down bandit hideout, has now become a growing settlement for new adventurers to come make a name for themselves. The party all return being given medals by King Krieg of Ultribar and the ruler of the Scorchlands for their brave heroics. Two small boys were seen playing with each other, they were Jesus and Moses' children who now live in the village and hope to grow up like their fathers one day. Bill wrote a book on his adventures and remained in Lowry. Moses helped his aunt found the new Monks of Mercy. Belavor brought a great deal of his people out of slavery and then brought them to found a new group of rangers in Lowry. A statue of Moses and Jesus was put up with space for the others when they pass on.
