Session 10: 21. Not 21. Report
General Summary
DATE: 28th of Spellire, Year 1732 of the Union Calendar
LOCATION: Pine Hollow, Enchantland
REPORTING OFFICER: Ulfgar Halfhand, Retired Adventurer, Pine Hollow
SUBJECT:
Recovery of Lost Shipment, Investigation of Cursed Couriers, and Mobilization of Forces to Blunderwatch
SUMMARY OF EVENTS:
On the 13th of Spellire at approximately midday, a pigeon arrived with an inquiry regarding the status of an overdue supply shipment. Investigation commenced immediately. Two hours later, the shipment’s horses returned to Pine Hollow in distress, exhibiting symptoms of exhaustion and magical interference. One hour after that, the couriers, Mara and Jorin, arrived. Both individuals were visibly shaken, afflicted by a supernatural malady that rendered them incapable of re-entering the Unclaimed Wyld. Symptoms included extreme disorientation when facing the Noon Road, as well as profound fear responses related to the forest. Given the circumstances, it was determined that the shipment had been abandoned. On my authority, a retrieval expedition was organized. Myself, Eustace the Wizard, Rusti the Alchemist, and Boris the Barbarian departed Pine Hollow within the hour, intending to both locate the missing shipment and rendezvous with the adventuring party known as the Treblemakers, whom we were informed had been dispatched to recover the supplies. Our expedition reached the wreckage site but found no sign of the Treblemakers. Over the next three days, we restored the carts, collected what remained of the supplies, and awaited the arrival of the adventurers. No contact was made, and thus, we returned to Pine Hollow with the shipment on the 22nd of Spellire. A pigeon was sent to Blunderwatch requesting further instruction. No reply was received. On the 27th of Spellire, the Treblemakers finally arrived in Pine Hollow, reporting a significant loss of time while traversing the Unclaimed Wyld. Investigations were undertaken into the nature of the couriers’ curse. Testimonies were collected from Mara, who described an unnatural attack led by a spectral black bear with red eyes. Independent inquiries were conducted by members of the Treblemakers, including an audience with Eustace, who assisted in uncovering relevant information regarding Puca fairies, known for their trickery and fear-inducing magic. Simultaneously, local accounts pointed towards the legend of the Lost Lantern, a supernatural entity dwelling in the eastern forest, suspected of instilling fear in travelers. During this time, Treblemaker Skreet independently entered the Unclaimed Wyld to conduct field research. He reported contact with a Puca entity, whom he engaged in song. The specifics of their interaction remain unclear, but by the morning of the 28th of Spellire, the couriers’ curse had lifted, allowing them to resume their duties. Further urgency arose when contact was made with Lieutenant Krell Softscale of Blunderwatch. He relayed a warning of an uncovered conspiracy, requesting reinforcements for immediate deployment. Given the absence of response from Captain Flannigan, it was deemed necessary to mobilize available forces from Pine Hollow. I, Ulfgar Halfhand, formally declared my intent to accompany the Treblemakers back to Blunderwatch, alongside Eustace, Rusti, and Boris, who were persuaded of the necessity of action. CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS:
- The Puca presence in the eastern forest has been confirmed. The entity known as the Lost Lantern poses an ongoing threat to travelers. Containment measures should be considered.
- The couriers’ affliction was lifted through unknown means. Investigation into the exact nature of the curse and its dispelling is recommended.
- Reinforcements, including this reporting officer and three other retired adventurers, are en route to Blunderwatch to assist in the developing crisis. A full briefing will be conducted upon arrival.
- The failure of communication with Blunderwatch raises concerns of greater interference. This matter must be addressed with urgency.
By the authority of the Order of Order and in service to the Union, this report is submitted for official record. May Order prevail. SIGNED: Ulfgar Halfhand
