  • E'dan

    A World of Wonder

E'dan, a world that has seen several cataclysmic events, a war between gods, and the exodus of those very same gods. Currently beings that call themselves Lords are vying for control and power over the fate of E'dan. Meanwhile the remaining races of the world are simply trying to survive and eek out a comfortable existence.

    The Continents

There are five main continents at this point in the world, along with two smaller continents which are uninhabitable at this point.

    Hoastindarnga

This is the largest continent and houses the biggest variety of sentient life. Everything from giants to halflings live in these vast lands. The land is divided up by the most powerful and influential races, but hosts a large amount of lesser races as well.   Casin Forah is the great white north of Hoastindarnga and is the least hospitable. Only the most hardy and ferocious of creatures live there. Frost giants and wyverns make their homes in its rocky mountains, and behir in the deepest valleys.   Demgol was once the home of a great jotun house who enslaved the dwarves and forced them to mine precious materials in the depths. But now it has been left barren; now it only boasts rough mountainous terrain, frozen peaks and dark caverns. It is unknown whether the dwarves still reside there, and if they do, what they've been doing for over 500 years.   Anjira is the northernmost region of the land that is inhabitable. It is also known as the free lands, a place where people of all different races, creeds, and backgrounds congregate and live in peace with one another. Anjira belongs to no one ruler, but to the people. They are however governed by a council comprised of the most influential in all of Anjira.   Qarto-Mesa is a heavily forested region with beautiful mountain ranges, large swaths of lily covered plains and crystal clear lakes and rivers. But don't let its beauty fool you. This land is home to the most cruel, the most vile and horrendous of sentient life. This is where the orcs, goliaths, ogres, bugbears, and goblins eek out their existence. The beauty of this great land stands in stark contrast to the violence and bloodshed that takes place there.   Cantalan is home to the humans who came from across the sea. The humans who settled here were murderers and thieves, left on the shores of Hoastindarnga by ships from a distant land that did not want them. They managed to pull themselves together and create a lasting kingdom. But this kingdom has become too large for a single man to rule and the destabilization is only amplified by the orcish raiders from the north, the werean threat to the east, and the uneasy alliance with the gnomes to the south.   Dagma is the land of the elves. This region is characterized by its red leaved trees which make up a large portion of the woodlands there. Much of their land is high cliffs and deep revenes cloaked in trees. Magnificent waterfalls line the countryside and from these high cliff sides the high elves have made a hanging city. Long bridges span the width of the waterfalls and their buildings rise high into the sky. But this serenity is threatened by civil war. The high elves have governed for too long in the eyes of the others, and it is time that they stepped down.   The Great Salt Plains were once a series of great lake with high, rolling hills and white sandy shores. Rivers that cut through stone and ran down from the mountains to feed into the sea. But this was all changed when Lógós, the god of secrets and knowledge, marched on the gates of heaven to wage war with the other five gods. When the battle had ended the lakes had become dry, the mountains no longer fed the land, and it suffered. The region became a great desert with sandy dunes, large areas of salt flats and red rock canyons, the cost of war with gods. the humans use the desert as a place of exile. They sent a large group of people who had become werewolves into the desert and built a large wall along the border to keep them out. But now a race a werewolves like beings called the werean call it home and have thrived in the harsh environment. They have built up a massive army they call the legions and have set their sights on invading the human lands.   Knom is the harsh, rocky region of the gnomes. Once content to live in caves among the stones, the gnomes became very interested in the arcane. The mastered magical arts and weaved magic in ways only the ancient Jotun could. They lifted large regions into the sky with this magic and made floating cities for themselves, protecting themselves from all ground based invasions. But this did not satisfy the gnomes for long. They began combining magic with technology, making devices for every day tasks and machines that would power their floating cities. Wizards no longer, they became artificers, and the leading minds behind some of the greatest magitech the world had ever seen.   Ilth is home to the tribal lizardfolk who came from the east, across the Sojourner straits. The landed in Dagma but were not welcomed by the elves who lived there. The traveled south and met with the gnomes who gave them a portion of land to call their own. They called it Ilth. It is a murky marsh, the water that was displaced from the gods war settled in this region and became stagnant. But the lizardfolk thrive in this environment and so are quite content with their lot and have a good standing relationship with the gnomes.

    The Broken Lands

This is what's left of the north eastern part of Hoastendarnga. It was once home to the greatest jotun house and boasted the greatest city the world had ever known, Aurahn, the city of the gods. But the great city was threatened by the other jotun houses, and so in a desperate attempt to defend themselves, they took a scroll from the reliquary of Lógós and caused a cataclysmic event. It caused the armies of the other jotun houses to be obliterated, along with all the lands inhabitants.Everything from the jotun to your average woodland creature was gone, wiped off the face of E'dan. Aurahn was destroyed and sunk into the sea, along with much of the land that connected it to Hoastindarnga. The surviving jotun who were outside the affected area then named the land Jaslibrios, which means regret. The other races simply refer to it as the Broken Lands.   Aurahn was the city of the gods, the place where the gods dwelled while not in their own realms outside of the material plane. It was magnificent; no other city compared to it. It was full of life and magic, the people there lived in complete peace and bliss. They were blessed by the gods themselves. It was the most sacred jotun city and only the greatest jotun house lived there. They were charged with its maintenance and its secrets.   The jotun who lived there considered themselves better than the rest, and became haughty. When the gods left E'dan, so did the blessings. This lead to the other houses conspiring against them. The conflict that proceeded was called the House Wars, and it ended in the total destruction of Aurahn and the near total extinction of the jotun race. Those who survived spread out, ashamed of what they had done. They regressed into a tribal state and eventually died out, though some say that the giants of today are the descendants of those ancient jotun.

    Mujien-Darum

This is the ancestral home of the lizardfolk. Their cousins, the medusa and yuan-ti who still live there drove the lizardfolk out, considering the more snake-like races to be superior. The land is mostly marshes and swamps with a few small mountains and raised plateaus. Ancient ruins dot the land, ziggurats to unknown deities stand in murky waters, and the cities of snake people thrive while the lizardfolk are subjugated and oppressed.   Durgun-Dasm is the region still owned and defended by the free lizardfolk, more commonly referred to as the dasm in these lands. This region is also home to a host of other amphibious creatures, as well as the kobolds. They live in tribal families that are no less united.   Minge-CasaDe is the region owned by the yuan-ti, the most snake like race in Mujien-Darum. They are more commonly referred to as the casade in this land, but renamed themselves after one of their most influential leaders, Yuan. She lead the casade to win battle after battle against both the medusa and the lizardfolk and cemented the yuan-ti as the most cunning and vicious race out of the three.   Rasim-Dur is the region owned by the medusa, more commonly referred to as the dur. The name medusa came about by one such dur named Medusa who ruled the dur and lead a raiding party across the Vannakkar sea to the island of Ail. The tales of Medusa became so widespread that the humans who came to Hoastindarnga has also heard about her. The name became commonplace in the homes of the humans, the elves, and the gnomes once the humans had settled and began communicating with the other races.

    Kyrda

This is the frozen continent of harsh crystalline formations and cruel winds. The only habitable region is the southernmost portion called Escrow. It was colonized by the humans of Amontria. Between the unforgiving heights of the glacial peaks and the deadly crystal tundra, the land belongs to noone and very few would volunteer to explore it.   Escrow is a small community living a constant game of survival and loss. those who wish to leave must wait for ships from Amontria, but unfortunately for them, no ships will be coming for them, they have been forgotten.

    Amontria

This is the land of humans. It was was divided between several races, but the humans waged war, driving most out and killing the rest. Only the island of Ail belongs to the satyr now, the last remaining non-human land. It is protected by powerful magic which the humans still have yet to break through. The humans have all but forsaken magic and rely on their technology and physical might.   The Tamor Mountains are a mountain range that runs along the north of the continent. In one of the valleys lies an old ruined fortification from a time when the races of Amontria were unified.   Pascira is the land that once belonged to no one, a region that was mostly wilderness. Now the humans have begun to build new cities there. Industry and utilization of natural resources has already left its mark on the land.   Amon is the original home of the humans. It is the most ancient of all cities and has undergone several changes over the ages. It began as a humble castle but has become a bustling city of towering skyscrapers and narrow alleyways.   The Ashcrown Mountains used to be the region of thieves and the home of a beastial race who first pioneered the industialization of cities. They are so called because of the light ashen rock at the top of the various peaks, making the region look like an ash colored crown.   Tria was once at war with Amn, but eventually Amon won the war and made Tria the secondary home of the king. It lies along the border of a desert and the forests around the ashcrown mountains.   Mahjahlah Jungle is along the western coast of Amontria and is host to a great variety of dangerous creatures. Giant snakes, insects the size of small dogs, and the mandel, a race of apes that once had intelligence but regressed to a point of being almost more like an instinctual animal species.   Dodogl's Rest is the name of the desert in the southern region of Amontria. It is so called as it was the final resting place of one of the human gods, who was killed by the humans. It is an inhospitable place where nothing lives.   Ail is the largest island along Amontrias southwestern coast. It is a very tropical place and the last refuge of the satyr who were driven back by the humans in the war which saw the extinction of several other sentient races.   Xact is a small island which once was home to a race of short alien looking creatures. They were called the Xactians and lived in relative peace and solitude. They were extremely intelligent, which made them one of the only races who caused the humans the most trouble in the war.   The Breath Isles were home to a race known as the asher. The asher were related to elves but their culture was very different. They were a humble people who excelled in magic and lived long lives. But they were displaced when their ancestral home was attacked by a race of undersea people who took it over in the night. The asher escaped the fatal attack and spread out throughout Amontria.

    Raske

This is a smaller continent that is almost completely unexplored. No one knows what lives on the island, but sailors who have come close to its shores claim to have seen horrible monsters and flying beasts, the likes of which they had never encountered.

    The Abyssal Islands

These are volcanic land masses that are far too unforgiving for anything to flourish. The only place where life grows is on the western side of the largest island off the coast of the volcano known as the Titan's Mouth.
