Session 1: This isn't junk? Report
General Summary
Session began with the time and weather reminder: early morning of the 14th of Junith, a crisp breeze and a cold, cloudless morning. Xiti and "Alü's Visionary" had stopped off at the "Hero's Head" lodge the night before, and Xiti had left "Visionary" outside in standby while they headed inside to drink and eat after the long journey west: conjuring their disguise to appear human rather than Fey. Soon to follow was Ghar, similarly disguised as 'Greg, the Farmer and Merchant' who happened upon the innert "Visionary" outside, and decided that such an artifact would be a perfect next sale. Ghar put Visionary in a bag, and moved him to the outdoor skullery behind the lodge. After heading inside, Ghar meets Xiti and strikes up conversation. The two warily trade stories of their journey up to this point, and Ghar asks if Xiti would be interested in buying his latest scavenge. The pair make their way outside in the early morning dim, and the deal quickly becomes confrontational as Xiti tries to explain that the junk that Ghar found is in fact their friend, and not for sale. Ghar and Xiti then get into a rather loud argument concerning the price of "Visionary", with "Visionary" unable to contribute as he remains in idle standby, but conscious. Ghar turns "Visionary" on by brute force, and finally the three come to a standstill, where Xiti reaches the end of their tether and breaks the tentitive silence with a sword slash to Ghar's body, inciting a short brawl. The Watch is called by the angry Lodge owner, whose snarky and irritated contributions throughout had done little to defuse the situation beforehand. Knowing the fate of disguised criminals and fearing for their safety, Xiti runs into the fields neighbouring the compound as the Watch's horses are heard approaching. Ghar and "Visionary" stay locked in a wrestle match where Ghar easily overpowers the small autognome. The Watch arrives moments after, and Ghar explains that he'd been the victim of a mugging, and that the dwarf responsible had made off into the corn fields. Xiti had since dropped the illusion, and continued to run, but on hearing the nearing hooves, they dropped the ground in an attempt to hide- keeping their face to the ground. Despite these efforts, they were discovered by the Watchmen who had given chase, and a short conversation occurred. Once the Watchmen were convinced that the strange human-looking creature was not their quarry, they moved on, and Xiti took the chance to circle back to the other two. In the meantime, "Visionary" and Ghar were being questioned by the Watch Corporal and his men, who were keen to identify the true owner of the autognome. Things were not helped when "Visionary" pointed out that autognomes needed no owner, and could in fact be independant- much to the confusion of the Watch Corporal. Eventually, Xiti decides to break cover and intervene in a new disguise: a noble elf woman with an impossibly difficult name. Using this guise, Xiti and "Visionary" convince the Corporal that Ghar is in fact a thief, and that the robot belongs to the elf. Once convinced of this, the Corporal has Ghar arrested for disturbing the peace and incitement. The party then briefly splits, but Ghar's constant protests made the Corporal call Xiti and "Visionary" back for questioning. The result of which was a break in Xiti's illusion and a display of Gwendorian racism as the guards make comments on Xiti's complexion and feet, causing a small scrap. After Xiti is restrained, they too are thrown in shackles for assaulting an officer of the peace and deception. Visionary is put in with the criminal pair as well. Luckily, incarceration did not last long as the trio set about starting a riot and blasting free with a great commotion- Xiti exacting their revenge where possible. One choatic gear-grab later, the group exits a couple of gold heavier, with Ghar also having stuffed a promising looking document in his pocket on the way out. However, the chaos had not ended as a small group of guards had responded to the alert sent out and the trio was briefly cornered in an alleyway where Xiti was knocked out, but brought back to consiousness by "Visionary". In spite of the close call, all three of the party were able to climb the alleyway sides to the slate roof above, and there they stayed for about 20 minutes as patrols circled in search of them. After the heat passed, Ghar shared the document, which turned out to be a bounty commisioned by the Alehelm Guild on behalf of local farmers to the northeast of the city. The quarry was an ogre which had been causing major damage to farmsteads for the last 2 weeks. The Alehelm Guild promised 100GP to any party that could bring proof of the ogre's death to one of their outposts by the 22nd of Junith. The trio therefore decided that they'd take on the task since it paid so well. They were, however, on a tight schedule as the journey to the hills left them with only 1 day to find and kill the ogre, and then make their way back to an outpost and collect the reward. Luckily, the process of finding the ogre was simple as there were few caves in the area that were large enough to house such a creature, and the party instead spent some time interacting with some wolves, before making their way into the cave. After a short interior search, they found the ogre, surrounded by ransacked goods, bones and tarps. They were able to take it by surprise and the fight was brutal and short, with the ogre felling Xiti and "Visionary" with its club. However, the trio were able to deal a killing blow, and were quick to loot the crates that lay under the tarps at the back of the cave. In them they found a variety of trade goods such as beaver pelts, silverware and loose change. In the longest of the crates there was crockery and a painting, however this was discovered after "Visionary" had smashed the crate to pieces in an attempt to open it, and none of its contents were salvagable. Neverthless, the group made a tidy profit from looting alone, and a further search of the cave revealed even more secrets: a bedroll and table laiden with alchemists tools. Xiti had noticed a sigil carved into the ogre's nape, and this discovery cemeted that there was more at play than the maraudering of a lone ogre. It was with this discovery that the session ended, clouds gathering outside for the fourth heavy rainfall of the week, and the light fleeting into an early evening dim.
