AAR: The Thalassian Heist
General Summary
Waking up in the cart with Imogene and Gabriel, the party quickly agreed to steal the artifact, if only due to a lack of other choices. William, Broseidon, and Mudrock then used William's broom of flying to ascend to the roof, before quickly ducking down through a skylight as a modified Githyanki sky-ship came in to land nearby. They found themselves hovering near the ceiling of the palace kitchens, and were confronted by the head chef, Gorrick. William then used a sleep spell to knock out the other chefs, and Broseidon intimidated Gorrick into fleeing. During his flight, Gorrick accidentally knocked a spellbook into a cauldron of Calamari. The resulting magical explosion brought to life both the contents of the pot (Tentacle Golem), and 6 of the spun-sugar statues that were resting next to it (Sugar Construct). William then hit the pot with a fireball, melting the accidental sugar golems. The Calamari Construct then flung itself out of the pot, and climbed across the ceiling to grapple him. Broseidon and Mudrock then attacked it until William could get free, at which point he cast magic missile to finish it off. At this point, Gabriel entered the kitchen. They then attempted to enter the courtyard, however they found a group of the King's Guard surrounding them. William flew above them before hitting the lock of a covered cage behind them with a firebolt. This freed Galron, who then mowed down the guards, accidentally injuring the others on the ground slightly. He then thanked them for freeing him, before charging through one of the walls of the palace. They then entered the vault with Gabriel, but were spotted by Korlath, who was on a lower passage. King Cephos and Lorelei ran off to alert the guards and secure the entrances while Korlath used his lightning to harass the party and try to beat them to the artifact. Gabriel picked the lock on the door to the access tunnel, and they soon crowded into the corridor, only to run afoul of the Path of Blades trap that rested there. After much running back and forth and aimless destruction, they managed to get the door at the far end open, and moved on to the room above the vault. William used his wand of secrets to find a trap directly between them and a seemingly unprotected chest, and they flew over the trap to discover that it was the personal stash of the cleaner tasked with cleaning the vault. They then flew down to the vault proper, with Gabriel jumping down after them, and Broseidon picked up Sharur. Gabriel then blew up the back wall and they flew down an access tunnel for the water system, before flying down through the pipes. The pipe came out in an abandoned wing of the palace, however Lorelei was waiting for them, and fought them until she was knocked unconscious, at which point they took her uniform, weapons and valuables, and rested for a few hours while waiting for the heat to die down. After a while however Galron was thrown through the wall by Korlath, who was in his draconic form. They then took on Korlath while Galron kept the guards busy, with William acting as flying artillery and Broseidon fighting in close combat, with Mudrock taking potshots until he ran out of spell slots, at which point William polymorphed him into a young gold dragon. The two fought for a while, until Korlath disengaged in order to chase after William. Just before reaching him however, William managed to finally finish him off, and Korlath crashed into the city below, causing an entire block to sink beneath the waves. Imogene and Gabriel then escaped in the cart alongside Galron, and the party flew down to shadow them, joining them just outside the city. The session ended as they started their journey into the mountains, on a quest to regain their memories.
