Session 41 - Saints and Sinners
General Summary
The Fixers’ Camp
The morning journey took a dangerous turn when
Cal’s sharp eyes spotted a familiar poker chip from the
Wavestone amidst an unassuming campsite path. Following the trail deeper into the forest, the party stumbled upon a makeshift clearing buzzing with activity. There, the
Fixers—a desperate band of misfit mechanics and mercenaries—had captured
Ekalim Smallcask, attempting to coerce him into managing their entry into the Champion’s Games in hopes they could pay off a debt to the
Bloodcoin Guild in Varisia.
Tike,
Dunner, and
Alfie approached to speak with the group, hoping to de-escalate the situation. However, Tike’s intense stare unnerved one of the Fixers, spurring the group into action. The resulting battle saw the party swiftly dismantling the Fixers’ forces through skillful combat and tactical prowess. While most of the Fixers fell, the leader was subdued and tied to the same post that had held Ekalim Smallcask, ensuring she would not pose an immediate threat.
In the aftermath, Ekalim, freed but shaken, shared that he’d stumbled upon the camp while searching for the party and that the Fixers’ lenders might seek retribution for their deaths.
Arrival at Tent City
As
Tymon’s grand walls and the imposing
Arena of Aroden came into view, the party was greeted by the chaos and vibrancy of
Tent City. This sprawling settlement outside the city gates bustled with gladiators, merchants, and spectators preparing for the
Champion’s Games. Vibrant pavilions and lively chatter painted the scene, though the undercurrent of tension hinted at the dangers lurking within.
At the
Dusty Pavilion, a patchwork tavern-inn filled with raucous conversation and shady dealings, the party met
Tessara, the sharp-witted half-elf proprietor, and
Gorik, the gruff but observant bartender. While Ekalim set off to gather more information, Cal’s magic proved far more effective, uncovering troubling details about
Loris Raknian, the director of the games. The investigation revealed Raknian’s ruthlessness and fear of losing power to younger gladiators. While no direct connections to the
Ebon Triad were found, the party began to piece together the danger Raknian might pose.
Saint Alduin’s Arrival
The festive air of Tent City was shattered by a display of power that left the crowd frozen in terror.
Saint Alduin, clad in golden armor and radiating a divine aura, descended from the sky, annihilating a gladiator who dared challenge him with a single, blinding strike of light. The crowd watched in horrified silence as Alduin crushed the remains beneath his boot, his deliberate cruelty masked by a façade of charm.
As the party emerged from their tent, Saint Alduin’s cold, purple gaze fell upon them. With a practiced, unsettling smile, he addressed the crowd and then turned his focus to the heroes. "I’ve heard about you," he murmured, his words hanging in the air like a veiled challenge.
