This is the continuation of (Session 432 – The Collaborator’s Secrets).

The heroes are following the trail of the mad priest of Ilvir, Xantosa, and his Troll servant Shageiros. They are scheming to revive the mythic demigod Obsidapor, the Crab Titan.

The long-lost lair of the Obsidapor has been discovered on a small island in the dangerous Deadwood Reef. The heroes have arrived and have entered the lair, although it looks like they may be too late, as Xantosa’s boat has disappeared.

Location: Deadwood Reef, near the Kingdom of Kanday.

Part 1 – Submerged Threats

The island has a poorly concealed cave entrance that opens into an underground waterway with depths ranging from 5 to 10 feet. Emerging from the water are two bizarre Ivashu, characterized by muscular, cone-shaped bodies, six spiked tentacles, and three eyes on stalks that view in all directions. The Matharic's, also known as Ilvir’s Lash, tentacles whip about, scattering the heroes. When they hit, it is hard, gouging deep wounds. The Matharic's rubbery hides are resistant to the heroes' bludgeoning weapons, and they push the heroes back until Abaddon unleashes a Ki Blast, which sends them reeling. Staggered, they are quickly finished off.

While the protagonists battle, they are being observed. In the distance, they spot a familiar malicious character, Shageiros the Troll, who disappears in a mustard mist, teleporting away.

Part 2 - The Dragon Turtle

The water-filled passages twist on and open out into a larger chamber. Suddenly bursting from the water, a serpentine head emerges, opens its mouth from which blasts a spray of high-pressure water. Most of the heroes dexterously dodge and engage the behemoth.

Abaddon takes on a gigantic size and moves behind it, and strikes at soft spots not protected by the Ivashu’s hard shell. The Dragon Turtle, or Yffanc, responds with a furious assault, and only multiple magical healing spells from Edelina keep him alive. Odin scores some lucky strikes into weak spots, and the huge monster is eventually slain.

Again, the troll Shageiros watches from a distance and disappears when confronted.

Part 3 – The Crabs of Light

In the next large chamber, the party can’t help but spot a half dozen arthropods the size of a large dog, with six limbs, strong pincers, and a scorpion-like tail equipped with a venomous stinger. The Kerep-Tikas, also known as Ilvir's Crab, are strange subterranean Ivashu that possess a large multifaceted eye and a rock-hard hide, covered in a complex bioluminescent pattern that glows with blue light. This is used for communication.

The Kerep-Tikas spots the heroes but doesn’t act aggressively, so Remy blasts one with an Electric Bolt. These normally peaceful ivashu will have none of that and swarm him. The little monsters try their best, stabbing, snapping, grabbing, and stinging, but the seasoned adventurers easily eliminate them.

Part 4 – A Rebellious Troll

A nearby cave glows with a pale green light, emerging from a strange moss. The floor is covered in lumps of red material that resemble congealed blood, along with a scattering of sharp spines. In the cave waits Shageiros, the servant of the mad priest Xantosa. The intimidating troll does not want to fight. He appears helpful, keeping his distance, given that during their last encounter, the heroes nearly destroyed him (Refer to Session 400 - Studying the Cyclops).

“You took your time getting here”, he growls, “I have much to tell you, and so little time.” Referring to his master, Xantosa, he says, “The Fool is continuing with his plan to recreate the demigod Obsidapor. This will happen when the Smith and Dragon meet over the spilled blood of the Titan.”

Edelina, a skilled astrologer, thinks she understands what Shageiros is trying to convey. The meeting of Smith and Dragon is unmistakably the Cusp of the Smith and Dragon astrological sun signs, occurring on or around the 4th of Nolus (in about a 3-month time). The spilled blood of the Titan may refer to the Onsini Quarry, a granite mine in Kanday, where, according to legend, Obsidapor was slain and his blood stained the stone red.

When asked why he is betraying his master, the troll spits out, “I hate him with all my essence, I will see his plans crushed before his eyes. I will have my revenge”. He then disappears in a burst of yellow mist.

Examining the cave, the heroes find that the large semi-petrified clots of blood have some healing properties, and the scales are incredibly sharp, making them dangerous magical ammunition.

Now that the party knows the time limit for Xantosa plots, they have three months to foil his evil plans.

To be continued.

Obsidipor - The Fallen

One of Ilvir's largest and most dangerous creations. The Crab Titan of Storms.

Manaclir, the Adaenum the Great Grey God, Master of Wind and Wave, was jealous, claiming that Obsidipor stole his crown. The demigods fought a long and epic battle. The land beneath them was wasted and sank below the sea. Obsidipor was slain and torn asunder, and his red blood stained the hill, creating the distinctive Red Granite of Obsini quarry.
