Season 3: Session 1: Welcome to Little Town Report
General Summary
Date: The Month of Demons 7th, 997 (AC)
At a community meeting the residents of Little Town are setting up the Town Hall.
Opal, Hector, and their youngest, Zayne, stand by the door, greeting people as they come in. It's Zayne's 6th birthday and he's wearing a new sweater - unhappily. He tries to escape as people give him birthday wishes.
Kobble also stands by the door. He holds Pebble up and greets people as they come in. He watches as Zayne gets out of Opal's grasp and runs out the door, quickly followed by Opal and Hector - and slowly followed by Caleb and Molly.
Cecil stands farther away, in a corner, trying (and failing) to be invisible.
Thia helps put out chairs and readies the room for the meeting. She finds a seat next to Steven when she's done, and Cecil comes to sit on her other side.
Grandad has already found a chair; he sits and waits for the meeting to already be done.
Mayor Annie Willow comes up to her podium and starts the community meeting by thumping her cane on the ground.
Topics of Community Meeting:
Water Demon week begins tomorrow. Reverend Illiad and Ben have already set up festivities for the event. Many travelers are setting up tents near the lake getting ready for their rituals.
Earth Demon week begins in one week. Sherrif Marcus and Steven are looking for volunteers to help set up festivities.
Fire Demon week begins in two weeks. Reverend Illiad is looking for volunteers to help set up the festivities.
Zayne runs back into the Town Hall and yells that David has returned! The meeting promptly ends as all the townsfolk go running out to greet him. After everyone has collected their items, the four of you were left to retrieve your items.
Thia is given a brown ceramic mug that looks like wood.
Grandad is tossed a coin that lands on heads in his hand.
Cecil recieves a folded up piece of paper, and David mentions there are a few options on it.
Kobble recieves a folded up peice of paper as well.
David then asks the group to work together and cause a distraction. He has an important client coming into town to pick up an item, and the client does not want to be seen. The client will arrive in 2 hours. David'll pay 50 gold to each of you for pulling it off.
Cecil accepts at the mention of coin. Thia agrees since Cecil did. Grandad has worked for David before and loves to adventure. And finally Kobble agrees as he needs the coin.
The group heads to the Town Hall first, being lead by Thia.
She catches the Mayor at the top of the stairs and inquires if the meeting needs to continue. Annie dismisses the idea, saying it can wait till next week; they got through the important bit.
Kobble asks Annie if he can perform a magic show for the town. She says that it would be a wonderful idea to do it at the monthly Little Town Festival. Kobble insists it should be today, but she doesn't agree. Annie pencils in his magic atc at 2pm on Festival day.
As the group leaves Town Hall, Kobble spots Isaac in a fight with an adventurer. This adventurer calls out for help. Kobble tries to calm the situation and, with the help of Grandad, convinces Isaac to let go of the man. Thia slips away and returns with Deputy Don to observe the situation. The adventurere, reluctantly, confesses to kicking Isaac's dog, Lucy. Don leads the man away after he apologizes to Lucy.
Isaac walks off with Lucy and the group returns to the task at hand.
Changing strategies, the group head into the General Store. Opal is at the front counter with Zayne on the table. Hector kneels by the stairs as he repairs step. Cecil takes the lead and translates for Thia. They want to throw a birthday party for Zayne at no expense to the family - plus Thia "promised" fireworks. It takes some convincing, but Opal agrees. Opal suggests the Apple Orchard as the lake is being prepped for the Water Festival. Cecil tells her the party will begin in a little less than 2 hours.
During this, Kobble steps out for a moment. He writes a note and snaps. A note returns to him burning. After a few more exhanges, and no results (except an exhasperated response) Kobble returns to the party, no closer to figuring out the fireworks issue.
Having set their distraction, the party begins to flesh out the details. Starting with getting the word out. As the group starts to cross the Main Square to the Inn, Ben flags over Grandad to help him put up a sign.
Kobble and Grandad lend their expertise and help hammer to sign into the wall. Ben returns with scones to thank everyone. Thia takes one excitedly, and takes the one Kobble offers away.
At the Inn, the party sees it full with adventurers having breakfast. Naomi greets the group and drops her smile once she sees Thia. Brian is helping serve the adventureres; you all see the top of Sam's head as he cooks in the kitchen.
Poppy is across the room gossiping with a table of patrons. Grandad signals over to her, and she gets up to chat. Grandad struggles to get a word in and lets her know of the party. She says she'll tell everyone and runs out.
Cecil goes over to Brian to discuss catering. The group manages to round up 75 gp to pay for it after Cecil (indirectly) insults both Brian and Sam.
Leaving the Inn successful, Cecil is bumped into by Zayne (who has escaped his sweater). Zayne shows him a bug and it flies out of his hand and into Cecil's mouth. Cecil frightens Zayne, until he opens his mouth and the bug flies out unharmed.
The party goes to their last stop in search of fireworks. Ellion lounges in their chaise with a glass of wine as the party enters the Magic Shoppe. Thia takes the lead and asks about fireworks. The group wants a bunch, but Thia calms them to choose a lesser amount as to not break the bank. Ellion returns with a small basket of fireworks and requests only one thing from each member. A scale, a scale, a hair, a hair. They all give this up and Grandad is given the basket of fireworks.
Leaving the Magic Shopp, Thia sees Nicoletta sitting behind the Inn crying. Thia pulls over Cecil and has him ask her what happened. She hurt her ankle and can't walk. Thia has Cecil heal her, and Cecil is surprised his Lay on Hands still works. Cecil tells Nicoletta to go to the party before she walks off.
With everything set for the party, the group finalizes their plan.
Grandad and Thia will be near the arch, waiting to hide away the incoming client with illusions.
Cecil will go to the tavern and distract any adventurers who weren't enticed to go to the party.
Kobble will be at the party keeping the townsfolks entertained.
With the plan in motion, David pull up at the arch as a carriage begins coming down the road. It is ornate and is pulled by two white horses. Grandad and Thia cast their spells and the road looks empty.
Cecil gets the adventurers inside of the Inn by promising a show. He enters and points at a woman, she's in full chain mail and wears the symbol of Ahovz, he then gestures to the much meeker man standing behind her and challenges him to a fight. They go to the back of the tavern and have a (disappointing) fight.
At the party all goes well as Kobble sends everyone out on a rock hunt. He entertains those who don't hunt with some magic tricks.
As the ornate carriage pulls up to David, a short human man dressed in regal liveries gets out. David bows to the man and they talk briefly. The man is lookin around a bit suspicious. Two footman come out and remove a large, covered item from the back of David's cart.
With the transaction done, the man enters the carriage and it departs. Once it's out of view, Grandad and Thia come out of their hiding spots.
They regroup and find Cecil fighting another adventurer (after knocking out the first). They let him know it's over and he can stop.
Thia and Grandad head to the party, and Cecil makes a pitstop at the church. No one is in the building and he approaches the shrine to Ahovz. It's bright and hard to look at, when he tries to see the items around the shrine they seem obscured in his vision. He sits for a moment before going out and joining the party.
The party enjoys the party (da dum tsh) and ends the evening by getting paid by David. He tells the group their a pretty good team, and they should keep at it.
