Black and snowy was the night of the attack. It had been nearly 50 years since the King, then a young man, called a truce with the Elves, halting a centuries-long war which both sides grew tired of fighting. Most humans were too young to remember the Great War that stained the fields and trees with the blood of their ancestors, but the Elves never forgot... Under cover of darkness, the Elven army attacked silently and suddenly. The surprised humans rushed to arms, and sentries rushed to light the flare to signal the King... that war had begun.
