Horrors & Heatwaves
General Summary
The newly formed pack drives out to Gilbert's Strand and scour the beach for any clues. They find a house ke, etched with the numbers 1428, discarded in the surf. Stonepad changes into the direwolf form, hippo, and picks up the faint scent. When she looses it, Wilovan turns lupus, and picks it up again. After a run through 4 miles of underbrush the pack finds an abandoned vacation house with a small boat bobbing next to the dock out front. Stonepad catches the powerful scents of burnt hair and ozone coming from the house. She starts pawing at the door. When Hans unlocks the front door (and thankfully stops the alarm from going off) she rushes past and destroys a door between her and the scent. It was unlocked. The door leads to a carpeted basement featuring a bar and a door locked with a padlock. Behind that door is a concrete storeroom. A tanning bed, modified to fit multiple padlocks sits in the center of the room. This is where Audrey Cruise was murdered. Willie and Wilovan search the rest of the vacation home. Wilovan discovers a laminated set of 'rules' that includes the phone number for Cobb Realty. In the boat Willie finds pliers and a spool of bailing wire. Hans gazes into the reflective glass of a print in order to peer into the world beyond ours- The Umbra. The bulk of the house is filled with faint reflections of joy, relief, and lust. The storeroom reeks of terror and sadism. Where the tanning bed should be instead is a supine flaming female form bound by heavy iron chains screaming silently. He summons the pack but when Willie enters holding the bailing wire the flame spirit screams kick up in intensity and Hans seems the wire transfigured into the iron chains. Wilovan engages in his Rite of Abjuration, which takes the form of talk therapy. Hans sees the spirit calm and the iron chains slowly turn into molten slag. In the material world the bulbs in the tanning booth all shatter. The flame spirit is freed. The Pack leaves the vacation house of horrors and drive back to Barlow. It is time to break into the county morgue! Willie examines Audrey's body while Hans digs through the coroner's files. He finds not just Audrey's autopsy report but also finds Leonard Spencer's. They read as follows:
- Victim 1: Leonard Spencer, approximately 50yo male. Deceased d/t hypothermia. Remains found buried beneath snowbank in the woods south of Stilson with L FA above level of snow. Ligature marks along circumference of neck. Pattern resembles chain links and coloring suggests ligature occurred prior to death. Scar from healed abrasion noted on L FA in the shape of a lightning bolt.
- Victim 2: Audrey Cruise, approximately 30yo female. Deceased d/t thermal injuries. Full thickness burns on 100% of surface area. L FA found wrapped in wire and fixed in lateral position. Scar from healed abrasion noted on L FA in the shape of a lightning bolt. Body found on Gilbert's Strand by civilians who stated they “just saw an arm sticking out of the surf.”

Wilovan might be the only member of the pack with a smartphone. Also how are they gonna keep in contact with Stonepad and Willie?
