Souls Campaign Session 5 Report
General Summary
Session 5: 21-06-2025
The party sets out to the Ice Hag's cave near the mountains to the west. Following the frozen fjord they stop to hunt and Ozzy finds a moose out in the tundra giving the signal to Saruske and Ghost to attack. They take it down and harvest it horns, hide and meat.
They keep going to the west and find the entrance to a large frozen cave and with a decrepit cottage next to it. The party sneaks closer while Ozzy approaches the cottage calling to Snorri to invite him inside but gets no response. Ghost's owl explores the cottage secretly and sees it has been abandoned. Going inside and using the wand of secrets they find a hidden diary under a loose floorboard.
Most of the journal is illegible and its pages have long since rotten away. You piece together some scraps and it tells a tale of how the witch-queen fled to this godless world to hide. Taking an interest in teaching her apprentices Skabatha, Bavlorna and Endelyn how to use her cauldron. Soon she will have regained enough of her strength and will set out into the realms again. Leaving her cauldron behind for her apprentices to find a way to get Baba Yaga out of her cage.
Ozzy recognises the name of the owner of the diary Iggwilv, the witch-queen also known as Tasha, a powerful archmage turned into Archfey. A fickle being that travels the planes and worlds showing up occasionally in the lore. Also recognizing the name Baba Yaga, a powerful hag and Archfey, and goes to the party to warn them that more is going on here.
Saruske keeps watch over the entrance of the cave and hears some giggling inside. He warns the others and they go into the cavern. They sneak inside but are spotted and attacked by Quicklings, small purple creatures wielding daggers and giggling maniacally. They surround him and slash at his legs and arms. He manages to avoid most of the attacks, strikes one hard in the face and retreats while the others attack.
Ghost uses his magical abilities to wipe out most of them and the last one surrenders. He introduces himself as Syl and Ozzy convinces him to join the cause for the pro magic and turn on the hag. Running to his hiding hole he returns with a note from Bavlorna naming Snorri as a new apprentice and revealing her weakness to love songs in her name. The party creates a plan to confront the Hag by sending in Ozzy serenading her a love song while the others sneak up to attack her.
Going inside the witches lair Ozzy enthralls the Hag who focuses completely on him. Chiki detects several magical objects inside and the strong magic presence of the hag. While the Hag is swooning over the love song sung by Ozzy who is now approaching the end of his song the others sneak through the room and attack!
