Session 7: Calm Before the Stormi Report

General Summary

Previously, the Peacekeepers had been tasked with removing the dust supply in Ferriero. They started with a lead at Scales and Flesh, which led them to a dealer behind the schoolhouse. Trying to avoid any more trouble, the dealer gave up his source—a thug named Camden was responsible for the production and distribution of the drug. This led them to his cabin in the woods a few hours outside town, where they successfully confronted Camden and his small gang in combat.

Finishing Up

It was nearly dark, and the party did not want to navigate the forest at night. They brought in their two prisoners and secured them to a post. They then took shifts to watch out for any potential reinforcements that might show up.
The first four hours went by uneventfully, but when Beeg was keeping a lookout, things started to turn. He stepped onto the porch and noticed the forest was suddenly and deathly silent. He scanned the darkness the best he could but could not see anything. He shuddered and remembered an old tale from when he was a child. He remembered the story of Blair Blair the Tooth Fairy. He quickly ran back inside, woke everyone up, and told them that Blair Blair was upon them.

The Legend of the Tooth Fairy

Once, long ago, there was an apprentice wizard named Blair Blair. She was a sweet and kind girl that lived in Ferriero. She fell in love with a boy named Sergio, and the two were soon betrothed to be married. On the eve of their wedding, she walked through the forest outside town to find wildflowers for her hair. As she did, she fell into a hole and found herself on the Shadow Roads. While she felt like she was only lost down there for a few hours, when she finally found her way back, it had been many years.
Blair went to find Sergio and was distraught to discover that he had married another, and they had a young child. Blair retreated to the woods, unsure of what to do. She felt betrayed and angry. It is said that she was in the state when she happened upon Baba Yaga Herself. The godly witch offered her revenge in return for her teeth. Blair agreed to the strange pact, wanting nothing more than to hurt those who hurt her. Baba Yaga took her teeth and granted her great power.
Blair Blair, consumed by hatred and a newfound vanity, took her revenge. She first kidnapped the child and stood him in the corner, waiting for his parents to come looking. The mother came first. Blair Blair captured her and pulled out her teeth, using them as her own. She then stood the wife in the corner next to her son. Next came Sergio. Again, she stole his teeth and then stood him in a corner. They remained in their corners until they died, unable to move.
Legend believes that Blair Blair was unsatisfied with her revenge. She is still an angry hag who craves more teeth. Parents tell the story to their children that if they wander the forest at night and all goes quiet, the Tooth Fairy is not far away. When children lose a tooth, they are told to throw them out into the street, or else the Tooth Fairy will come and steal all their teeth at night. It is also a common practice for travelers to carry a pouch of teeth (usually those of animals) if they wander the forest and come upon the Tooth Fairy in the hopes that she will accept them instead of stealing their own.

The Gang Decides to Become Dentists

After Beeg tells them about Blair Blair, they are all terrified. Nonna hides her false teeth while Rocco suggests they take the teeth from the corpses to offer Blair Blair. Beeg takes out some pliers and begins to remove any good teeth that he can find. Nonna had the last watch, so she would hold on to them and give them to the Tooth Fairy should she show up.
The group uneasily goes back to sleep, hoping that Nonna can handle her duties. Nonna went out to the front stoop and sat on a stool, waiting for the hag to appear. However, as she waited, she grew tired and fell asleep while holding a dozen teeth for the Tooth Fairy. When she wakes up, she panics and looks around. It was morning, and as far as I could tell, the teeth were nowhere to be found.

Back to Town

The Peacekeepers return to town with their prisoners and evidence. They went straight to the courthouse to speak to Deputy Taldahk. They hand over the prisoners and evidence but are allowed to keep the treasure as a reward for their service. They remark that the laws seem flawed and could be used to steal from citizens. The Deputy seems shocked by the idea and suggests they talk to the Town Council about their concerns.
Afterwards, they try to interrogate the prisoners regarding the Black Lotus. They could not find out much; only the two they captured were bodyguards, and Camden was in charge of everything. Nonna and Rocco attempted to make sense of the coded ledger they found but could only decipher that someone had met with a contact in the morning.

Nonna's Afternoon

Nonna was out on patrol a few days after they had returned to town. She was healing the sick when she spotted a familiar-looking dwarf girl. She approached her and learned her name was Lisbet, and she lived in town with her parents. They spent the afternoon walking around town and talking when Nonna realized she seemed familiar because she looked like a younger version of herself. She asked where the girl was from and said Capleon, which Nonna had never been to. Lisbet bid her farewell and returned to her parents, leaving Nonna feeling alone again.

The Investigating Wizard

On the morning of the 12th, a woman with a dark complexion came to the bunkhouse to speak with Vincenzo and the others. She wore green robes and introduced herself as Taamira, and her friend, dressed in similar green robes, as Samir. She claimed to be from the Circle of Stars, an order of mages from Nuria Natal. She was looking for the map case they had found on the dead wizard on their way to Ferreiro.
It was discovered that the mage they had found dead was named Apheru and was protecting the map from the Dragon Empire. They were very secretive about why the map was important, but they offered to pay for it. When asked how they knew they had found the map case, Taamira revealed the black cat following them from the windmill. It had been the familiar to Apheru, and they came to see them once they knew the map was safe.
With everything seeming in order, Vincenzo accepted the 20 gold and handed it over. The wizard and her associate both left promptly after that.

Breakout

Early one morning, while on patrol, they hear cries for help. Sisto, the apprentice at the Glittering Anvil, is in a panic because some Drathknights stole their two magmadrites and were trying to escape town with them. Beeg and Rocco could stop one of the magmadrites and took most of the would-be thieves into custody. However, things were slightly different for Nonna and Vincenzo.
Nonna tried to cut off the escapees, leaving Vincenzo alone. The druid approached him and asked him please to move out of their way. The Peacekeeper decided to let them pass and escape. He then made it appear that he had failed to stop them.
When they took the prisoners to the courthouse, the Deputy was furious with them. He was angry that one of the magmadrites escaped and that Vincenzo had destroyed a part of the street when he failed to stop them. He ordered them to remain at the bunkhouse until they had orders.
This did not sit well for Rocco and Beeg, and the two snuck out to try and track down the escaped magmadrite and druid. Unfortunately, they could not pick up on their trail and were forced to return empty-handed.

Dealing with Stormi

Deputy Taldahk returned and told them the Town Council was furious about what had happened. They cannot prove that Stormi Fellwater had anything to do with the breakout, but they want her out of town. The Peacekeepers were to go and find her and escort her out of town.
They found Stormi at The Tall Stone, which she frequented. She was annoyed but not surprised by the turn of events. She already had her back packed and willingly left the town. The party attempted to follow her, but she spotted them. She turned into a deer and sped off into the woods, leaving them behind.

A Meeting with Snitt

Vincenzo and Beeg received separate invitations to meet with Snitt at The Tall Stone. They were surprised to see each other there, but both sat with Snitt to hear what the kobold politician had to say. He told them that he wanted to make significant changes to the town but needed more support for his bid to be on the Town Council. He believed that having a Peacekeeper like Vincenzo and a community hero like Beeg on his side would be very beneficial.
He told them that he supported the workers first, wanting to ensure fair treatment and pay for their labor. Snitt also felt that the laws in town were flawed and needed adjustment. The kobold said he also believed in freeing the magmadrites in the long run, but that would take a lot of change within the town.
Beeg was eager to support him and had ideas for people he could talk to for more support. Vincenzo was a bit more hesitant to throw in with the politician, but eventually told them that he would see what he could do.
