Session 8: Crime Scene Investigators Report
General Summary
After the Peacekeepers dealt with the magmadrite escape, those involved received a commendation for their service. Nonna, Vincenzo, and Rocco all received promotions to constables. Meanwhile, Galerina was learning how to use her alchemist tools from Deodata Cinco of The Wild Quill in exchange for some work.
The Fire
Early one morning, they were suddenly awakened and told there was a fire at The Tall Stone. They quickly went to the tavern to see it was engulfed in flames. They helped to put out the fire and then went to work investigating the cause of the fire.They discovered that the owner, Betta Goldenhandle, was murdered--hit in the back of the head with a hammer. Her safe was also robbed. The fire was likely an attempt to try and hide the evidence. Through some keen detective work, they eventually found a lead to none other than Bashar, a thug that they had dealt with during a previous case.
Bashar, in his typical fashion, attacked Galerina as she stood at the door. She retaliated with her necrotic spores, killing him on the spot. Fearing their case was at a loss, they searched his cabin for clues. They found a chest that belonged to Betta and 300 gold pieces. They also found a note on him that suggested that he was paid 100 gold to kill Betta.
The note led them back to Betta's widower, Darvis Goldenhandle. They determined that his handwriting matched the notes and that his mistress was in on it. Beeg was able to run her down as she tried to leave town quickly. The two were taken into the courthouse to stand trial. The mistress ended up turning on Darvis in exchange for being spared from the death penalty.
