Session 5: Cave Goblins Report
General Summary
An earthquake surprises Ferriero for a second time. The party rushes towards the mine, hoping to uncover the source of the tremors. What they find instead is panic as miners flee from monsters within. After fighting a few creatures, they go down to the third tier of the mine when suddenly they are ambushed!
Tier Three
Cave goblins came from both sides of the tunnel, trapping them. The goblins were pasty and grey, with mold growing in the folds of their skin. Armed with crude daggers, they struck at the party. Fortunately for the party, the goblins were deadly with their blades, but they were not very fit for fighting. The party laid waste to them without much effort.They journeyed further down the mine until they saw a strange, green light glowing up ahead. The brave Mario preceded the party to scout the area. He found what appeared to be a narrow tunnel dug out by something circular. On the walls of the tunnel were crystals that gave off green light. He was about to return to tell the rest of the party what he had found, but a grick stood between him and his comrades. Instead, he attacked it and called for help. The party rushed to his aid, killing the monstrous worm together.
At that point, the party was severely beaten and needed a rest. Rocco was about to lie down in the tunnel, but Nonna suggested that the party return to the breakroom on the first tier, where they could safely rest.
King Flemgut
After resting for an hour, the Peacekeepers decided to pick up where they left off. They returned to tier three and had a choice: either they could go down the ladder they knew would lead to tier four or take the green tunnel that snaked downward. They talked about it and then decided to take the tunnel.The tunnel winded a bit, eventually leading them down to tier four. Unfortunately for Mario, this tier of the mine was pitch black. He lit a torch, and as his eyes adjusted, he saw a group of goblins with their backs turned to him. They craned their thin necks around to see where the light came from. A fight ensued between the two parties. All but one of the cave goblins were slain. The one that did survive just barely escaped and went dashing down a dark tunnel.
Nonna decided to go first down the tunnel and found a cave opening that must have appeared during the earthquake. The green light was coming from inside it. She walked through first and the others followed.
Inside, the cave goblin runt that had fled was talking to a morbidly obese goblin with a stone crown. The runt pointed at Nonna and the others. The goblin king flung the runt to the side, cursing at him in their foul language. He then turned his attention towards the Peacekeepers and accused them of trespassing and sending the earthquake. The other dozen or so goblins in the room sneered.
Mario explained that they did not send the earthquake. Rocco claimed they had every right to enter the goblin king's cave because they were Peacekeepers. The goblin king called them liars and refused to accept their authority. He gave them the ultimatum to surrender or face the consequences. At this point, the goblins in the room had all slunk back into the shadows and could not be seen.
Mario said that he wasn't going to surrender because he was "about to kick his ass." As the king laughed at the attempted intimidation, Mario tried to attack him. A goblin leaped from the shadows, stopping him from reaching the king. The king then motioned for his goblins to attack the rest of the unprepared party. Rocco attempted to fight the king himself while everyone else was facing the goblins.
Mario was the first to fall. Then, one by one, the others were dropped until only Nonna remained. She decided to drop and play dead. The goblins threw the bodies into the mine and left them there. Nonna then got up and healed Gallerina. By the time they got to Mario to help him, he had already died. They carried his body out of the mine. The miners, seeing what had happened, helped to transport the body to the Temple of Volund. Unfortunately, there was nothing that the priest could do for him.
