Session 103: At the Purple Rocks Report

General Summary

Session 103 – Wednesday March 23, 2022 – The Purple Rocks

4 Hour Role Play session 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

It is the 10th day of the month of Nightal (The Drawing Down) in the 3rd year of the Age of Enialis

Goals:

• Gather the other parts of the god Destroyer sword (Blade, Hilt and guard)
• Destroy the Amber Sarcophagi with the god Destroyer sword
• Take the sword to the Summer Queen and have her destroy it.
• Get dragon egg for Lady Cersei.

Finish Him!

Lucky dashed to Slarkrethel. As he passed Anna he said “wait, I want to talk to him first.” Then Lucky said to Slarkrethel “I’ve come to bargain; I may be able to save you.” Slarkrethel said, “I know who you are” and then swung at him with a tentacle. Tyrena shot another seeking arrow, but Slarkrethel just dodged it. Slarkrethel smacked and grappled Lucky with his tentacle. Slarkrethel squeezed and then Flung Lucky at Anna. Lucky saw Anna stumble to get out of the way and gave her a little luck so she could dodge. Anna sawm 75 feet and hit the Kraken with a Ray of frost slightly chilling it and slowing it down slightly. She then used step of the wind to close the distance and punched the Kraken.

The kraken smacked and grappled Anna. Jaquette in the ink cloud, swam up and saw a bloodied Lucky. She carefully considered and said, “I think you’re deserving” and she cast Heal on Lucky. Shen then headed back down to find Rolen. Lucky dashed to the kraken again and tried to convince him that he wanted to help him. Slarkrethel had nothing to do with that and smacked him with a tentacle, grappling him again. Lucky was thrown 60’ away towards a rock but missed. Anna was then bitten and swallowed by the Kraken.

Anna cast Ray of Frost again from inside the stomach and then flailed and punched at the creature. Lucky swam within ear shot of Slarkrethel and again told the Kraken that he wanted to bargain to save his life. Slarkrethel responded with a lightning bolt. Anna, inside the stomach, became sloshed in stomach acid but absorbed some of it and then punched with great force and hit it so hard, she burst through the stomach, killing it!

Meanwhile in the lair, Rolen…

Doc, went to Rolen and felt for his pulse, but found nothing. Doc gave him a potion, but it didn’t work. Tyrena swam down and saw a floating Rolen being attended by Doc and as the ink cloud started to disperse, she began looking at the piles of treasure all around. She was able to identify some older shell fragments indicating that perhaps there is a young Kraken. Tyrena then went to Doc and was quickly joined by Jaquette all looking over the lifeless body of Rolen.

Rolen had heard the evil word reverberate in his mind as the spell Power Word Kill struck him. All he saw was bright white that slowly faded to black. Then he saw the white face of the raven queen appear and he heard her voice say, “I have one more thing for you to do…” A moment later, Rolen’s eyes opened to the astonishment of the others. Shocked they asked him what happened. Rolen coughed up some blood and explained that his patron brought him back and she wanted him to retrieve a crown for her.

Collecting things

Anna examined the dead Kraken and wanted to get the ink sack. She looked at the head and realized that it’s too big to fit into a portable hole. Saddened she went to the ship and asked them to dive the ship underwater to tie up and retrieve the kraken’s body. Anna then she joined the others in the lair. Lucky came in and saw that Rolen was alive. Rolen told them that the Raven queen is aware of the god Destroyer sword, and she wants it along with a certain crown. The party searched and found a ton of loot (see treasure found.) They also found an ancient spell book and saw all the spells of which the kraken was capable (see treasure found.)

After an hour they felt they had gone through all the piles but hadn’t found the blade or the crown Rolen was looking for. Tyrena found 7 shell fragments and Jaquette found 5. They puzzled how they would be able to search the immense space for secret compartments and realized it would take them a very long time. Tyrena swam up for a moment and noticed that the storm was slowly fading. Rolen re-examined the spell book and read about the “Sequester” spell. Realizing this may have been used he asked if anyone could see invisible objects. Doc had a “See Invisibility” formula; he injected it. He then looked around and found a marble pedestal with a crown on it and a blade stuck between the two.

Doc tried grab the crown and it seemed to be sovereign glued to the pedestal and the blade was glued between them. Rolen tried to cast dispel magic on the column but failed. He cast it again and revealed column, blade, and crown for all to see. Rolen then examined and confirmed that the objects are sovereign glued together. They didn’t have any universal solvent or oil of etherealness. Rolen opened a demi-plane and they worked together to move all the treasure into the demi-plane.

After a couple hours and a little bit of exhaustion, the party left the emptied lair and saw the Charon and the crew attaching the Kraken to the ship. Tyrena and Lucky removed the Kraken skin to make a set of sails and tents. Lucky and Tyrena worked together to remove the Ink Sack.

Lucky gains a patron.

Lucky was teleported away into the presence of another Kraken named Gethshemeth. The Kraken was upset and explained that she and Slarkrethel had a child together. She told Lucky that she was grateful that Lucky tried to save Slarkrethel’s life. She knew what the party was after and offered lucky knowledge on how to wield the weapon if he would in turn kill a certain Empyrean named Uldrak. Lucky asked when? Gethshemeth explained that Uldrak will know when the sword is completed, and he will seek it out.

What’s next?

At dinner, the party ate kraken sushi with a side golden dragon steak and discussed their next plans. They realized it wouldn’t be a good idea to have a Kraken carcass with them as they go to an island of Kraken worshipers, so they stuffed it back into its lair. Lucky filled them in on his new patron and told them that assembling the sword may summon an Empyrean. They discussed who would get the sword first and what to do. But first they realized they didn’t have any way to unglue the blade. Lucky didn’t want to wish it undone.

They also discussed the Crown and Rolen explained that the Raven Queen enjoys collecting items that are associated with suffering. Lucky and Rolen realized that Cersei had some Universal solvent and if they brought her a dragon egg, she may give it to them. They finalized on a plan to rest on the ship (underwater) for the night and then go to the purple rocks in the morning to find Ducia.

Rolen went to speak with Lucky and his Patron. Lucky cast commune and asked 5 questions. 1) Do you want the sword for yourself? No. 2) Will the sword be returned to Rolen? If you give it to him. 3) Do I need to fight the Empyrean? Whoever attunes to the sword will. 4) Can we truly kill a god with the sword? Yes. 5) Whoever attunes to the sword first, do they keep the power? As long as they are attuned. The party slept and leveled up to Level 20.

The purple Rocks

In the morning, the ship came up to a clear blue sky. The party sailed around to the Western Island and decided not to go directly to the docs. They boarded the magic carpet and the broom and Jaquette remembered that she forgot to make breakfast! Forgoing a heroes’ feast, Jaquette turned into a giant eagle and carried doc along. They saw a few fishing villages, but not many people. They did not see Hitch’s ship. They eventually came to the southern port of Ulf of Thuger on the western island of Trisk. The large village was surrounded with a large wooden stockade. It appeared to have been made with wood from ships. They saw someone standing at the end of the doc facing the sea with his arms outstretched and his head back. The party landed quietly on land near the docs. Lucky asked the party if they had any swords. Rolen gave Lucky a great sword he got from Biff in the Tomb of Annihilation. Doc engraved his name into it making it a +2 sword. At the beginning of the docs, they saw a sign:

Posted: Great Umberlee, hear me! Great Queen of the Sea, heed this fervent supplication! Too long have we forsaken your true way, in our times far from the sea! Yet we return and can never forget you! You, who quell storms and raise them with but a thought! Yet we cry unto you in our time of need and make what humble offerings we can! Take, now, all the gold this ship carries, every last piece of it-and all the glistering gems, too! More than the weight of a man-yours, if you but take back your faithful guardians, to rest once more upon the bottom and await other intruders! Hear me, Great Umberlee! Accept now this offering!

 

Ulf of Thuger

They party went into a wooden structure that looked like a pub. They had seen very few people in the village and just a few were in the pub. They met a man named Frir. Rolen asked if they had any visitors recently. He responded, “nothing out of the normal, it’s too cold.” Rolen mentioned the sign and that they brought Tonnuna with them. Frir divulged that he was friendly with Shniska and Rolen told him that Shniska was dead, and Crow was running Gundbarg for the time being. Frir called out, “Hey, Wu!” Two women came over and he introduced them as Hey and Wu and told them that Shniska was dead. They ran off to spread the gossip.

Rolen said, “We’re looking for a dark elf woman.” Frir said, “We don’t mention her name here.” He then took them into another room. The entire building was built from salvaged (or pirated) ship parts. Frir introduced Fod explained to him the situation. Fod said, “You are looking for She who must not be named.” He explained that she basically keeps them as prisoners on the island and they dare not go against her because of the dragons. Rolen asked to speak with the leader of the town. They said you want to see Krull.

The “man” from the doc came in. He was bald, had purplish skin with what looked like barnacles over portions. He had 2, what looked like, thin smooth tentacles hanging down from his cheeks. Rolen asked what does she want? Krull explained that the offerings they normally give to Umberlee must go to She who must not be named. She allows some tributes, but she takes all the gems and diamonds. Tyrenna asked where “She” might be. Krull told them Hitch comes in once a week and sometimes with her and sometimes not. At other times she may be in one of the dragon lairs.

Krull explained that there is a dragon lair on each of the main islands in the Purple Rocks. He also told everyone that “She” will often travel with Red Necromancers of Thay and undead creatures. He told them how “She” and the necromancers say a single word and kill people in the village and raise them as undead. Krull said, “They have taken many loved ones that way to make an example.” Rolen said, “This will be stopped.” They party told Krull they’d be off and will bring them back Dragon stakes. Krull said he’d prefer a dragon egg.
