Session 109 Report: Bel

General Summary

Session 109 – Wednesday January 22nd, 2025: Going after the fire orb part 1.

3.5-hour Battle/Exploration session 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

The Stone Bearers. Party of 6:

It is the 6th day of the month of Ches (The Claw of Sunset) in the 51st year of the Age of Enialis (Late March.)

The path to Bel

Cassidy sneezed and brought Gazlowe and Seften back into the dungeon. Seften cured Zorguk from his infernal wound and Cast Power Word Fortify on Cassidy and Ajani. The party saw the devils organizing down the hall. They saw 2 horned devils, two Orthons and a Marilith gathering and proceeded to attack. The Devils started their attack focusing on the demon Zorguk. The party charged in punching and slashing and the Devils had a tough time hitting anyone. Ajani critically wounded one of the devils with a Gravity Sinkhole. With 4 of the devils gathered close together, Seften cast Guardian of faith in the center, killing one of the Horned devils. Gazlowe killed the other and ripped the horns off the creature. Ajani’s lightning orb ripped through the remaining creatures. Isabella and Zorguk focused on the Marilith and Isabella killed her and then turned to kill one of the Orthons. Bird finished off the last Creature.

Bel

The party heard a slow clap coming from the north and they proceeded towards Bel. They walked with intimidating purpose having slain 2 groups of devils so far. Then Isabella tripped, spoiling the look. They approached the Devil lord who sat in front of the glowing red orb. His banner was posted behind his chair, and he was flanked by a pair of Bone devils and a pair of Chain devils. Long spiked chains hung from the ceiling.   After bantering with Bel for a moment the party saw a female devil named Annalisa walk from behind Bel. She informed him that he owed her a coin. Bel offered the souls of the Stone bearers and Annalisa reluctantly agreed and then she cast Gate and left. Frustrated by the interruption, Bel ordered his devils to kill the Stone bearers.

An unexpected Loss

Ajani got off the first shot with a chromatic orb that hit three of the lesser devils. Zorguk went in like a madman and threw his 2 daggers at one of the chain devils landing a critical hit. Seeing his minions getting hurt so quick, Bel cast a fireball hitting the entire party. The Fireball hurt the party and erased Bird. Bel flew to Zorguk and said, “Demons are not permitted here!” Bel struck Zorguk twice with his great sword leaving him badly bloodied and then bludgeoned him to death with his tail and swept the body into the lava. Gazlowe screamed, “Zorguk! Nooooo!”   Juan pulled out his shiny necklace and touched the Talisman of Pure Good and yelled, “For Zorguk!” A pit opened in the floor and Bel was destroyed. The other devils were shocked but not frightened. They continued to protect the orb. The Bone devil pined Cassidy to the ground with a spear. Isabella ripped the spear out of Cassidy and hit the chain devil with it. Cassidy whipped the orb and it cracked. Seften charged in with a spiritual weapon and tried to take some heat off Cassidy, but Cassidy was still the focus of the devils. Cassidy was restrained by one of the chain devils. The other knocked Cassidy out. Cassidy’s rites went out and she woke with 1 HP. Ajani hit the devils with a bolt of lightning leaving one of the Chain devils in critical condition.   Juan and one of the Bone devils fought each other. Isabella killed the Chain devil that was holding Cassidy and then attacked the others. Cassidy healed herself a bit and shot a magic arrow at the Orb, the arrow hit and teleported the orb 10 feet up in the air where it fell to the ground with another “Crack!” Seften cast power word fortify on Cassidy again. The Chain devils tried to kill Cassidy again but continued to miss. Gazlowe was only able to land a glancing blow on the Chain devil. Ajani cast a 6th level chromatic orb at the bone devil and destroyed it. It then bounced and hit the Chain devil and then again it hit the remaining Bone devil. Juan and his drinking buddy finished off the remaining Bone devil.   Isabella and then Cassidy struck the last Chain devil. Seften hit it with his spiritual weapon. The Chain devil hit Isabella 3 times with his chain and restrained her. Gazlowe punched the creature and with a little furry of the small, killed the Chain devil. Isabella was released. Isabella and Cassidy rushed to the orb and destroyed it. It exploded and the party took some minor fire damage.

Help from friends and a rest.

After the fire orb was destroyed, some of the magical protections Niptu had established began to faulter. Orist contacted Gazlowe and told him that the troops can now enter Hellgate Keep. Gazlowe told Orist to direct the troops to the remaining orbs while they go after Niptu. The party then gathered all the treasure from the room (See below.) Seften took the potion of Longevity, and his age was reduced to 20! Gazlowe stored the dog sled in the folding boat.   Ajani collected the daggers dropped by Zorguk and then he and Gazlowe built a shrine to Zorguk. Gazlowe left the golden idol of Prince Hedon. Ajani looked into the magic mirror to learn aobut Niptu. He learned that Niptu’s biggest fear is feeling powerless like he was when his village was destroyed when he was a child. Ajani scried on Niptu and saw a very youthful, handsome Niptu somewhere in his lair using a scrying pool. The party shared their thoughts on personal space and took a long rest and prepared for going to kill Niptu in the morning.
