Big Dave

General Summary

The party arrived at the Laughing Axe to find Drakk Ivarsson  is grumpy. Grumpy because a new gang threatened him with protection money on behalf of 'Big Dave'.   Naturally Drakk isn't going to pay this money so he hires the party to go and deal with Big Dave and his crew.   First though, the party need to track Big Dave down and helpfully Drakk has captured one of Dave's thugs and has them tied up in his cellar.   Matrim Harperly sees this as an opportunity to commit all sorts of war crimes, were the Geneva convention something that existed in Berinen.   One interrogation later (during which minds and beer barrels were shattered) the party learn of the location of Big Dave's cave.   First they have to travel through the forest to the north, where they are set upon by spiders. Needless to say, by axe, magic and raven-strikes, all the spiders are dealt with quickly.   Then it's onto the cave, where a short while after the entrance they see the tunnel ahead of them ablaze with flame, but the fire doesn't seem to be giving off any heat. Veylin, the barbarian that he is, puts his hand in the fire to see if it's an illusion. The result is a deep burn into his flesh.   Stumped, the party use the Coin of Communication to summon Elion of Rivermeet. Elion quickly discerns that the fire is magic in origin but so is the second spell that's keeping the air around the flames cold. It's something he dispels with ease, and cures Veylin's hand before taking his leave.   With the route through to the lair unblocked, the party approach and hear the gang chanting "Big Dave, Big Dave, Big Dave!" Where Big Dave is standing in the middle of a room, a room surrounded by lava, and all his gang distracted by the chant.   Thane and Veylin sneak in, pushing thugs into the lava and taking their place. Then all hell breaks loose and Big Dave (who is really, REALLY big) starts attacking. Thankfully the party are able to overcome Dave's huge size and strength, and return to Drakk for their reward.

Matrim - 0GP as payment for wrecking Drakk's cellar. Also loses the Coin of Communication.   Thane - 5GP   Veylin - 5GP   Corbyn - 5GP
